Nintendo customer service shines again

Friday, March 30th, 2007 at 12:58pm by Staff

Ninetendo customer service gets a gold star today for dealing with a mishap in Europe. Infendo reader Jamie gives us the info:

Hey, not sure if you’re interested but there’s been a lot of commotion around the Nintendo Europe site as they recently released Wii Virtual Console points into the stars catalogue for 789 VIP points, turns out it was just a test and it was all a mistake. I was one of the people that bought the Virtual Console points, as I really wanted to buy super Mario world. Here’s the email they sent me anyway:

“Dear Nintendo fan,

Last Friday we have been running internal tests in the Stars Catalogue on our website. Unfortunately, because of a mistake during the testing phase, the Wii Points item accidentally appeared on the website between 4pm and 8pm.

We noticed that you have accessed the Stars Catalogue during this testing period, and that you spent 789 Stars on the item, without getting any Wii Points in return.

First of all, we want to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

This item is not available in the Stars Catalogue, and the price of 789 stars used during the testing period was entirely random.

However, we understand that this may have caused a disappointment. So, as we know how committed you are to Nintendo – and given the exceptional circumstances – we decided to electronically send you 1000 Wii points, if you’d like that. In case you do not want to get these Wii Points, we will of course reimburse the amount of Stars you spent.

Please allow us some time to properly prepare the opportunity for you to choose between Wii Points or Stars. You will receive a follow-up email from us soon, so please keep an eye on your inbox.

Thanks again for your understanding,

Best regards,
Your Nintendo team”

Nintendo has been doing very well in this area recently. Keep it up!

    Okay, maybe I missed something.

I saw that on Kotaku as well, but I’m curious… What are these stars that the letter is talking about?

    Did I totally miss something?

Thats really awesome. Something similar happened to me with a Metroid Prime promo disc. I ended up getting MP2: Echoes for free. I don’t know if it was a mistake though. >.>

When we register games over here in europe we get points, kind of like loyalty points, register a game, 250 points, register a console, 500 points. They’re called ViP points and you can buy stuff out of the VIP catalogue with them, usually it’s just PC weallpapers and screensavers but every so often they put up games or even consoles, they put up the origional DS with 2 games before its european launch a while ago.

Well..Well…I think Nintendo Costumer Service should work worldwide.
I’m a brazilian costumer and I sent this email to Nintendo:
    “Hi!
I’m a Brazilian costumer and I want to register my Wii.
But I can’t do this at nintendo.com, because it accepts only USA and Canada
    costumers.
Why this? Why Brazilians can’t register their products?
Why Nintendo doesn’t has a Portuguese Language option at Nintendo’s Official
    Home Page?
How can I register my Wii and my games??
    Thanks for the attention”

    That’s the answer:

    “Hi there,

While we appreciate your enthusiasm and support, the registration service found
at http://www.nintendo.com, unfortunately, is only for residents of the United States
and Canada. Although similar programs are in effect in other parts of the
world, I’m sorry to report that there isn’t one currently in your area, nor have
    plans to create one.

    Thank you for your e-mail.

    Nintendo of America Inc.”

    It’s not fair!
I won’t accept a single “I’m sorry but if something happen, you brazilians are completly fucked and we won’t do anything…sorry again”
So, I have money to buy the console, the acessories, the games…and Nintendo won’t support me if something got wrong?
Nintendo should think about it, if they want to overcome the world again…
    I’ll won’t give up!

Anon, don’t post that here. The title says “Shines”. Don’t destroy the (d)illusion.
