Nice pile of releases there. It’ll be interesting to see if a portable version of Guitar Hero will take the world by storm like it’s older brothers did. I know Blake has a pre-order in for Cake Mania 2. I’m slightly intrigued by Alone In The Dark. What’s your pick this week?

I think I played the first 2 or 3 AinD on PC. It was a nice adventure game. I’d be interested in the new one if it’s more adventure than action. Or is this like Eternal Darkness?

i’ll read some reviews of gh:ot and see what i think after that. i wasn’t really excited for this game, and tbh the release sort of snuck up on me – i thought there were a few more weeks.

I’m surprised that Final Fantasy Tactics A2 is out already. I picked up War of the Lions for the PSP at half price yesterday, its such a great game. I played the original PSone game to death and am doing it again. The GBA iteration displeased me though so I am not sure about A2.

I’m all about FFTA2. Altho I may have to wait *shakes fist @ paying rent*
I was gonna pick up GH as well but now I’m not sure I want it. Not sure what triggered my 2nd thoughts. I think part of it is that every time they have a handful of killer songs and then some turds. I realize that’s my opinion, and that of my friends, and that of people I overhear…. But still.

@john: Guitar Hero DS was released today, so you can’t pre-order it anymore. I got to test it out yesterday, since apparently Gamestop wanted someone at the entrance to show it off. Unless you need to own every GH game that comes out, I would not get this game.
First off, the guitar grip has a bit of a problem staying inside the GBA slot. Unless you want to make your hand cramp up to hold it in while you’re playing, expect it to get quite loose during extended periods of play. The other problems I had with the guitar grip was its size and being able to get a comfortable hold on the DS Lite while I played. The buttons on this thing are tiny. And this is coming from someone whose hands aren’t that big in the first place. I can’t imagine what it would have been like if I had played it on the DS Phat. If you have bigger hands I’d probably recommend you play it on that, if you had to.
Now, onto the gameplay. There’s something inherently cool about yelling “Objection!” into the mic, but not to activate star power. I just ended up tapping the gauge if I needed it. Besides not being able to hit notes sometimes due to the awkward hold I had, strumming was by far the most annoying part of the game. Strumming fast within a small area makes you miss notes. Dragging the strum out with a longer line improves accuracy, but on congested chord areas sometimes I wasn’t able to both keep up and strum accurately. If they made it so just tapping the screen with your finger worked it would probably have been much easier, since you could use your index and middle fingers. The whammy bar worked pretty consistently, except for a few times when it thought I was strumming instead of whamming.
Finally, the songs. The only one’s I really enjoyed were the ones that had already been used in previous GH games, except for maybe “I Don’t Wanna Stop”. The note charts are really nothing special. The solos don’t work all that well on Expert without the orange note, and some of the hopo sections were annoying due to the bad grip. The chord progressions weren’t all that interesting. Overall it wasn’t an enjoyable experience for me, and I certainly wouldn’t pay $50 for it.
1 out of 4 stars.
Anyway… I’ve already paid off my copy of FFTA2, so… >_>

Just picked up my GuitarHero for the DS.. now I can rock out on the bus going to work…
Gameplay is pretty fun so far. It’s a pretty solid attachment. Though, I’ve got to get used to those smaller keys, they’re definitely made for younger hands than mine.

Oh, Capcom…why do you deprive us of the Mega Man we love?

neko how can it come out of the gba slot??
June 23rd, 2008 at 12:20 pm
the thing just doesn’t stay in the slot, it isn’t, lets say, locked into the gba slot like gba games are.

@Derek
The MegaManZX series is about as close as you will get ATM. And they can’t churn those out as quickly.

thats weird, cory. i looked at some reviews and nobody said that. hmph..

I’m already halfway through medium on gh:ot and so far it’s pretty fun. Although I had to restart once because the guitar grip came out.

Hunter: Yeah, I dig Mega Man ZX. But even so…it’s nowhere near as good as the original Mega Man series. That’s why I don’t fully understand…Capcom could just drop the “ZX” shtick, put the REAL Mega Man in there and they’d make everyone happy. It’d be that easy.

I didn’t get Rockband. CrossWords and Ninja Gaiden were calling out to me.
Ninja Gaiden really does feel like the original pocket sized. It is easier, but they say you get a true difficulty level worthy of NG after beating it. I plan to get it and play through it.
