Miyamoto Jealous That He Didn’t Invent Angry Birds, Maybe a Time Machine Will Be His Next Project?

Shigeru Miyamoto has a lot to be proud of.  He created some of the most beloved video game characters in the universe, yet he has one regret.  He wishes that he had invented Angry Birds.  How can such a simplistic mobile game create a hint of jealousy when you are the father of such iconic characters such as Zelda/Link, Donkey Kong and Mario?

Now Miyamoto did not actually say the word “jealous”, however you do not need to be psychic to see it in his quote below.

Miyamoto had this to say:

“Angry Birds is a very simple idea but it’s one of those games that I immediately appreciated when I first started playing, before wishing that I had been the one to come up with the idea first. I mean, obviously I want to be the one creating the most convincing, surprising game ideas.”

I agree that Angry Birds is addicting, fun and brilliant.  I am guilty of downloading each incarnation of the series and playing it until my touch screen shows lines of wear.  As I was reading up on Miyamoto’s borderline jealousy of the game, I could picture him building a real life Mario’s Time Machine just to travel back and create the game first.  I have a feeling that Miyamoto’s love for the feathery projectiles will, no doubt, inspire a new game or character in the future.

How do you feel Angry Bird’s would differ if Miyamoto was the creator and how would the birds fit into the Smash Bros. Series?
