With Super Mario Galaxy coming out next week, various Mario retrospectives are starting to pop up on the web. Jamie from Scotland even spotted this one on the Nintendo of Europe site, too.
What are some of your most memorable Mario moments?

The first time I ever played Super Mario World and then Super Mario All-Stars will always be fond memories of mine. Every time I boot up either game I get lost in the classic music and remember sitting in a dark basement with soda pops and lime green bean bag chairs…. Ahh the nineties….

I remember the first time I played Super Mario Bros at the DAR Boys & Girls Club. I think it was the first time I ever saw an actual NES and became so inspired that I saved up, put the Deluxe Set on layaway at Kmart, and then bought it!
As for Mario himself, I still have great memories of playing Donkey Kong at the old bowling alley in my hometown. The speaker was at the perfect place to make your stomach rumble with the bass!

I remember the first time I played Donkey Kong, on a bootleg machine (I think it was Congorilla) in the bowling alley up the street from my house. (When I saw my first Donkey Kong in a proper arcade a few months later, I thought it was a bootleg.) Anyway, someone had shoved in the plexiglas screen cover so you could just reach in and give yourself all the credits you wanted. I played for like 3 hours straight one day after school but still never saw the cement factory until watching someone play the real Donkey Kong.
Changed my gaming life, as I went from being all about shooters to being a fan of platformers…. not that we had a word for them yet. (EG or one of the other game magazines of the time started calling them “jump’n'run” games, but that was kinda dumb.)

Too bad there’s no retrospective at GameTrailers.

Yes video retrospectives @ GT would be awesome! And if one franchise desrve it, it’s Mario!
