I love it! Reminds me of The Animainiacs!
It actually looks decent, (if skinny) but at the same time, it’s probably that same old “Let’s be too lazy to make it look as good as possible. Instead, let’s stylize it and make the customer think that we were really trying to do something special for the Wii.”
It looks a heck of a lot better than that Grand Slam Tennis cartoon at least.
Love it!
“Let’s be too lazy to make it look as good as possible. Instead, let’s stylize it and make the customer think that we were really trying to do something special for the Wii.—
Its looking OK , but yeah Brian, that’s exactly what they did here.
This is what we can expect from the Wii visually, and I am fine with it, I have a system for ultra realistic visuals and HD gaming, so this might be a fun change.
Neither a good thing, nor a bad thing, really.
Actually Brian, I disagree. I don’t equate creating stylized graphics with being “lazy.” Coming up with an artistic style is work too, and work I’d rather see more of that gunning for super realism.
Quite frankly, it looks terrible.
It looks off because of how I’m used to seeing the series. If I liked football and plaayed Madden I’d be fine with it, but a style like that is going to chase away many Madden players. It won’t matter if it’s the best version of Madden ever, if it looks like that, they won’t have their realism. I hope it sells well and that I’m wrong on that thought.
Frankly, the so-called “realism” in the other consoles never looked all that real to me. I think we’re deep in the Uncanny Valley with the 360 and PS3 when it comes to games striving for realism. (go to Wikipedia and search “uncanny valley” if you don’t know what I’m talking about)
Good or bad, the Wii avoids this problem because it doesn’t have the horsepower.
I think the art style looks very good in motion–Click on the GameTrailers TV : http://maddennfl.easports.com/wii.action
To those who say even if the Wii version was the best people wouldn’t buy it because of the art style, it’s likely people wouldn’t get the Wii version anyway because the Wii already has that stigma associated with it.
It looks good and is necessary I believe.
It looked fine before but hey if they want to give it a try then that is ok with me. It’s still console football and I had no problem with none realistic sports games in the past. I think more real gamers will play this game possible due to the less serious look of it. I wonder though how many console gamers where that deep into football to want the realism? They just want the fantasy not a coach sim.
After seeing it in action, I like it less, but would still buy it. (only for $29.99)
Hey, at least it’s a new madden game that changes more than just the roster.
This is bloody revolutionary.
Well
Its not to the point that its goofy, unlike Grand Slam Tennis.
It looks VERY clean and sharp which is good.
I digg =]
Not a fan, then again, not a fan of american football so I won’t be getting the game either way. Doesn’t look too bad but it does seem slightly needless.
I love the style. I think it looks very cool!
it looks cleaner and more personalized than 09 and thats a good think. also just look at the stadium it looks ten times better. everything just seems to fit. that being said im probably gonna rent this one on wii but still buy madden 10 on the 360. i have 09 on wii and 360 and I have played them pretty equally but the online on the 360 gets the edge and also as a hardcore nfl fan madden 10 on wii’s graphics and presentation just don’t do it for me despite being very creative and all.
I don’t think it looks bad at all. I agree with Anon. The 360 and PS3 versions strive for realism, but aren’t exactly pulling it off.
I don’t think the Wii version is dumbed down or different because the developers are lazy. If anything the Wii series is where the innovation is at. The “next-gen” consoles are getting continuous iterations of the series without having much changed.
They are in the right direction. Anytime the try a multiplatform game with photorealistic graphics, the Wii looks pretty bad by comparison with the HD systems. By turning to a cartoonish style, they avoid comparisons, which I believe is good. I would be more worried about the quality of the animations, something that could make a difference in the game’s looks.
Looks fairly nice, they’re playing to the wiis strengths. As for the realism argument, the powerful pro baseball series is easily the most in depth baseball out there year after year. And it doesn’t even attempt to look remotely realistic, clearly that’s not a very important element of the game.
I agree that it looks fun, kinda in a Mario (Golf, Soccer, Baseball, Tennis, etc.) kind of way. It could be the ‘art style’ that will sell it. It is very different from the others. It is not my type of game though. I have been playing Madden since the beginning and enjoyed the new versions, year after year, but for an extra $10, the PS3 version is mine.
It’s not bad, definitely something that can grow on ya after a few play sessions. My only concern is like what was stated above, and thats how well the players animate. Part of what makes a distinct art style really pop and stand on its own is whether or not the characters move fluidly.
The only other thing I hope for is that they really emphasize the size difference between line backers, running backs, wide recievers , etc with an almost Ice Hockey vibe. That will really make the art stye even more attractive to me.
Looks like Team Fortress 2, which isn’t a bad thing.
if the wii2 can actually handle graphics… will we be hearing even more uncanny valley complaints? if the wii could put out 360 graphics, would people complain about realism over cartoonism right now?
i’m betting no to each. those complaints just don’t sound sincere to me.
looks pretty good. there’s no way the game could look like the x360 or ps3′s version, so i’m glad they went this route. plus it gives me a chance to try out a series i haven’t played in years.
Video games aren’t life simulators, they’re games – they should reflect that in style and gameplay.
If you want to have a statistically realistic football game, that’s fine – but better to have a great sports game that looks great than a sports game with a great gameplay mechanic that looks terrible. Look at Power Pros – it’s “kiddy” looking but it’s a great series of baseball games.
Perhaps deepthought above me is right, maybe this wouldn’t be an issue if the Wii had better graphics output – but it doesen’t, and developers need to play to the console’s strengths. A “realistic” game on the Wii would never compare to a 360/ps3 version, and would be inferior in every way – a low end graphics clone that would only attract Madden fans who didn’t own “higher end” consoles. I’m not sure how the gameplay differs, but compare it to Ghostbusters Wii – sure, it’s more “cartoony,” but it’s also a DIFFERENT game that provides a different experience, this alone will drive me to purchase both versions.
Better a “Wii Version” does something unique than inadequately tries to emulate something it can’t be.
Looks like all the players whant on a crash diet @_@
The staff has been discussing this visual look over the past week. I actually like the look more than past Madden titles on the Wii. Instead of trying to crank the Wii’s little 729MHz processor to pump out “realistic” visuals, EA is now simply playing to the consoles strengths.
I say, “go for it!”
1.2 ghz proccessor m8 get it right come on and the wii can defo put the same graphics out as 360 in 480p,and if they spent the same money on wii development as 360/ps3 or more close to then i think the wii could pass the 360 in some games in graphics YES IN GRAPHICS WERE ALL GETTING BLAGGED all u have to do is look at the recent videos of spyborgs, resident evil dc,to see that the wii is a powerhouse for a console that runs 480p so its a powerhouse really u wait till E3 and see if we then share the same opinions
oh all this if it were on 360 or this would look alot better on 360 rubbish ill say it again that wii graphics are as good as 360 just not got the games to prove it untill the end of the year there will be loads to compare 360 games to and im saying the games will look graphically as good to the human eye and thats good enough for me with next gen controls and sport games that are simply going to own im with the right console and do not wish to get a 360 for a minor graphical upgrade and dual cock controls minor upgrade meaning u get a top tier wii game and put it next to a top 360 game THERE WILL BE VERY LITTLE DIFFERENCE AND THATS GRAPHICS NOT RESOLUTION OH RE4 MORE GRAPHICALLY DETAILED THAN 5 IN ALOT OF AREAS LEAONS HAIR IN RE4 IS AMAZING COMPARED TO RE5 AND THE ZOMBIES ARE MORE DETAILED ASWELL AND THATS GAMECUBE SO IM NOT SURE WHAT DEVS ARE DOING BUT THERE DEFO NOT PUSHING WI TO ITS LIMITS AND WHEN THEY DO WHICH WILL BE GAMES LIKE ZELDA WII,NO MORE HEROS DS,PROJECT SORA PROJECTS,HVS NEXT GAME,ECT
