Klonoa looks better on Wii than PlayStation

Thursday, October 30th, 2008 at 4:04pm by Derek

Acclaimed platformer Klonoa: Door to Phantomile is being remade for Wii, and it looks significantly better than the PlayStation original.

From a rich color palette to beautiful water effects, it should come as no surprise the Wii version of Klonoa is prettier than its decade-old PSone counterpart, but Wii devotees can understand prior concern.

Visit Japanese site Game Watch for more screenshot comparisons.

Klonoa: Door to Phantomile originally released for the PlayStation in 1998. Namco Bandai announced the “Wiimake” earlier this month. It will be released Dec. 4 in Japan for the modest price of 4800 yen.

There has been no announcement of a North American release.

Considering the Playstation came out in 1995, this should surprise no one.

At least the Wii version is looking alot tighter than the PS2 Klonoa.

Well no shit. Although I would love it if they used a 2d sprite for Klonoa again.

    well duhhh

    2 generation console gap…

Never had a PSone (or any other machine from that generation) so I look forward to trying this on the Wii.

Yeah, well PS1 to Wii is no competition, but I think is much better than the Klonoa for PS2 (even if it was in 2002-03) so that’s a plus!

they wouldnt have made a wiimake without an upgrade anyway, so what was the point of pointing out the obvious?
No remake has ever looked exactly like the original unless it was a 16-bit era game since they are timeless.

Besides, I am not usually one to say this is old news, but this is very old news. We had screenshots and i think even video weeks ago showing this. Why was this article not written then?

Sad what we’ve come to expect, isn’t it. I have noticed that after the Soul Calibur fiasco, Namco is trying harder.

In unfortunate news, I heard that they’re trying to redesign Klonoa in a more anthropomorphised and less cabbit like form. Why is beyond me.

Why is a game looking better than a game 2 consoles ago news? For that matter, why when it’s better than LAST gen? Has it come down to this, where we celebrate when the game actually does look a little better than past gen?

    Geez….

So you guys are telling me you would’ve been surprised if it didn’t look much better than the original? This is Wii we’re talking about, ports to which are usually either unaltered or lazy.

The “news” is that effort seems to be going into Klonoa Wii.

That is true Derek, but don’t you think it’s a bit sad that we have to point out that it looks better on the Wii than on the PSOne? lol

  12. daverage says...

Exactly, I would only be surprised if it looked better than a PS2 game. As was the case with Okami, one could make a solid argument for either platform.

But to go back 13 years and boast is a bit silly.

  13. KillerHeroes says...

    That’s kinda expected.

  14. TBlack says...

Im all for bringing back PS1 IPs.

    Brave Fencer Musashi Wii?
