    Yuck, no thanks. I can see using something like this in a running game (like in Wii Fit), but I can’t imagine trying to use it in other games. In a FPS, for example, trying to get the aim right can be hard enough without trying to do it while jogging in place.
    For some games this would be an interesting add-on, but for most games, no thank you.
    Plus can we say Too many cables.

    I feel much the same way. Honestly, I wish it was a pedometer that could integrate with Wii Fit – you could go out and do you normal jog and time how long it took, and Wii Fit could then add that information to your profile. But not letting the nunchuk function unless you are running?

  3. Attilio says:

    I have to agree with Joshdad on this, it doesn’t seem like it would be good for FPS games; although it would make the game feel a bit more realistic. If you think about it, I am sure there are situations when people do run and shoot in real life, but us gamers are lazy and don’t want to run in place and shoot lol.

    lame. i like how they show all the people playing the games with the dumb plastic accessories though – the lightsabers and the zappers and the tennis rackets. does anyone here actually own any of those (other than the zapper, i guess, since it’s kind of helpful)?

  5. Lite (on a Windows 7 beta!!) says:

    That’s great and all, but where the f!ck do you put it? Your pocket? So it’s like a frickin’ motion sensor. The Wii Remote’s motion detection is great, but in a device like that where it’s put on your person, it’ll suck. Honestly, if you want to walk to make your sprite walk, they should just have you take steps on the Balance Board.

    @benthedorklord:

    I like the Zapper.

  6. Lite (on a Windows 7 beta!!) says:

    And how the hell do you change direction? I’m not usually one to criticize Nintendo, but this doesn’t look like something that would work.

  7. That one guy says:

    @Lite

    This is not a Nintendo product, it’s third party.

  8. Lite (on a Windows 7 beta!!) says:

    @ That one guy:

    Now it makes sense. Never mind. Still stupid though. The Balance Board idea I had sounds better.

  9. Crusher says:

    To me watching these videos, the people in them are all are trying to hold it in while playing. This product looks really annoying.

  10. Attilio says:

    the idea is nice, but the implementation is definitely horrible

    @lite
    the balance board idea is good but the games would have to be made to support it, but the pedometer doesn’t need support in games, pretty much when you jog in place the pedometer allows the nunchuck signal to pass to the remote so it can be sent to the wii. its basically an on/off switch

  11. Lite (on a crappy PC!!) says:

    @ Attilio:

    That’s fine and I understand what you’re saying. I just think that if the Balance Board needed a better purpose, it would be this.

    And how would you turn? Change the way your body faces the screen?
    I don’t know.

  12. Attilio says:

    @Lite
    I agree, the board would be good for something like this, except it won’t be as universal as the pedometer, that’s all. I guess the board would work in a similar way as the pedometer, the nunchuck controls the direction you are facing while the board controls when you move. For example if you are just standing there and you push the control stick right, then your character will turn right; however if you are walking in place and you push the control stick right then your character will be walking and turning right (or walking sideways).

    I just wonder how many people will accidentally walk off the board while their character is running and then get shot in the back lol

  13. Lite (on a Windows 7 beta!!) says:

    @ Attilio:

    I see what you mean.

    On the other hand, if you’re just gonna change direction with the C-Stick on the Nunchuk, and move by jogging in place… Wouldn’t it be better just to use the C-Stick to move and by-pass the doing work?

    (I know, I’m lazy, don’t rag on me.)

    See, the problem we face here is that you’re basically paying good money for a rather useless button replacement. “Too lazy to push a joystick? Now you can RUN and push a joystick!” Oh, joy…

    If they implement a better turning system, then it’ll be good.

    By the way, how would you play Mario Kart or Brawl, where you’re driving a car or walking in 2.5D? Just sayin’.

  14. Joshdad says:

    Hmm, how about Mario Kart ala the Flintstones. The faster you run, the faster your kart goes.

  15. Lite (on a crappy PC!!) says:

    @ Joshdad:

    Repeating backgrounds too? What’s the video gaming world come to? Heh.

  16. Attilio says:

    @Lite
    I guess games like Mario Kart and Brawl wouldn’t use the pedometer or balance board.

    The technology that the Wii has right now is probably only good for one thing, a game where you walk in place (with the pedometer but preferably with the board) and your character goes through the level. Turning would be controlled by the game. Sort of like those shooting games in arcades where your character moves through the level on his own and all you do is aim the plastic blue gun at the screen and pull the trigger. To be honest that might not be such a bad idea for a game.

    In the end, what it comes down to is the fact that the only way gamers will ever feel like they are truly inside the game is when we have holographic video games…. i can’t wait lol
