I wanted to chime in on the Friend Code issue. Unless you are always playing with tons and tons of people, I really don’t see any problem with spending the twenty seconds to input in someone’s friend code. It’s definitely more inconvenient then any other multiplayer system I’ve seen, but it’s servicable. It’s definitely not something that is so much effort that it should prevent you from playing a game online, unless you are making a stand on principle alone.
One improvement that Nintendo can make is to add functionality to allow a Wii user to send his game specific friend codes over the Wii message board. The code can be clicked and it will automatically entered into that game, even if it means that it automatically launches the game (you would need the disc in the drive), similiar to how the start button from Check Mii Out messages automatically starts the Check Mii Out channel.

I second Scott’s motion: Animal Crossing MMO FTW!!! And without Friend Codes!!
And the problem with Friend Codes is not so much the codes themselves and inputting them, but that each game (and each Mii in some cases) have their own code! This method only works if you are going to play only one or two online games, but I don’t think that was Nintendo’s intention…
And, Scott, a word of caution on storing your credit card number on a Wii: I don’t think you can expect a better security system on a Wii than you would have on, say, a MicroSoft-owned system… but we could use some same-session form cache!

“Will a core gamer be satisfied with the Wii alone“?
I say, no! For a core gamer, Wii is a good secondary console, but you need one of the heavy-hitters to get to the more culture-shaping games, such as Portal or Bioshock.
A core gamer could get satisfied today, however, with a Wii, a DS, and a PlayStation 2… in my opinion.

Blake, Can I have your Mono Sound Guitar Hero Disc? Please!

Ask and ye shall receive, Will.

if you don’t care about first person shooters or role playing games the wii can be your only console. those are the two genres nintendo can’t match.
but you can still be a hardcore gamer, a traditional gamer, a true gamer without liking those genres.
and my absolute dream for the wii is an animal crossing mmo. i’ve wanted this since i first played animal crossing on the gamecube. it would be so unbelievably good. i hope i hope i hope. . .

Oh wow! I was going to just post a “Thank you” for the plug, but I see that someone or, Wordpress itself, made a comment about it already!
Well, thanks again! Tanya and I hope not to disappoint and keep up the good work!

Thoughts on the podcast. First I love the show.
Friend codes! They totally suck. I have a 360 also and I don’t even think about playing games online on the Wii because the codes thing stinks. I know that it is free, but I would gladly pay $50 if it was as good as xbox live. So I don’t like it and because of the way it is set up I don’t really use it much. Oh and you guys mentioned that it only takes a minute to enter in the codes, but that isn’t totally true. It takes much longer, because most people don’t have the codes on them, so they have to go look it up from both sides. By the time each person is done with that hours, days, even weeks might have gone by.
We love Golf! I also heard that it is awesome. One of the reasons is that it is made my Camelot. The makers of Mario Golf, so I wouldn’t be expecting Mario Golf anytime soon. But honestly it will be fun to play with your Mii’s more than Mario characters. However, I don’t know why they didn’t add any. Also, if they do ever make a Mario Golf game, hopefully it will be like the gameboy games, a little RPG ish and online of course. I might actually play golf online with others!
Thanks and I love the show!
