Happy trails: Ten best Wii games remaining

08. Fortune Street (Square Enix, Nintendo)

For some games, generating interest is an uphill battle. Dumb name? Check. Another minigame compilation? Check. Square Enix working with Nintendo? Ugh, check.

Not exactly causes for optimism. That is to say Mario Sports Mix sucks.

And yet there’s reason to keep an eye on Fortune Street, a game that borrows as much from real board games as virtual ones. Playing as characters from both the Super Mario and Dragon Quest franchises, Fortune Street emphasizes board games over minigames. Rather than racing to see who can mash buttons fastest, you’re playing to accumulate wealth and outsmart friends with your business savvy.

Long story short? It’s Monopoly with Mario, though I’m not sure a plumber incapable of saving more than 100 coins is a wise choice for a game based on wealth management.

Fortune Street includes 15 boards and supports up to four players.
