25 GBA games you may have missed

Unofficial Game Boy week continues on Infendo!

Amid the final Wii drought and lack of deep 3DS games at the moment, I’ve been having a blast revisiting the Game Boy Advance’s library, most of which I assume many of us never played, particularly the latter years as both DS and Wii were already in full swing. That said, here are some high-scoring games you may have missed, and can pick up cheap on the second-hand market:

  1. Final Fantasy VI Advance
  2. Castlevania Double Pack
  3. Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones
  4. Racing Gears Advance
  5. River City Ransom EX
  6. Kirby & The Amazing Mirror
  7. Drill Dozer
  8. Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town
  9. Metal Slug Advance
  10. Baseball Advance
  11. Ninja Five-O
  12. Spyro: Eternal Night
  13. TMNT
  14. Yggdra Union
  15. Scurge: Hive (Metroid knock-off)
  16. Summon Night 2
  17. Mario Tennis Power Tour
  18. Tales of Phantasia
  19. Gunstar Super Heroes
  20. Mega Man Zero 4
  21. One Piece
  22. Rebelstar: Tactical Command
  23. Riviera: The Promised Land
  24. Warioware: Twisted (Just in case)
  25. The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (I’m amazed by the number of people who haven’t played this tier-1 Zelda experience)

Did I miss any?

Drill Dozer was such a good game, and I’m glad to see it listed here! It’s really sad how no one has really played (or bought it).

Looks like Game Freak will just be kept slaving over pokemon for the forseeable future…

  2. Holly says:

THANK YOU for including Drill Dozer! So under-appreciated!

  3. DannyBoy says:

I’ll third the inclusion of Drill Dozer. Excellent game, tons of fun, certainly needs an HD treatment like we saw with Warioland Shake-It.

  4. Stan says:

Yggdra Union was a really good game. Anyone who likes Fire Emblem and Advance Wars will love Yggdra Union.

  5. Mohan says:

Nice list. For me, I missed a ton on the GBA as I only had 4 games on it. Wasn’t really into portable gaming until the DS Lite.

  6. Razortoe says:

You have Fire Emblem twice on there. Unless “Sacred Stones” and “The Sacred Stones” are two separate games….

  7. Ac says:

    Mario vs donkey kong!!

  8. Ac says:

    No advance wars either?!

  9. Richard says:

    Wade Hixton’s Counter-Punch

An outstanding, personality-filled Punch-Out clone featuring great character art and perfect gameplay. Best portable Punchout style game to date.

  10. wrackune says:

I was almost shocked to see Minish Cap so low actually. Have people really not played it? The game is absolutely tier 1 for every reason – art, music, game play, bosses, charm, replay value.

I havent played too many of these titles. but i do play a lot of GBA w my son. We recently purchased an unopened game cube for 29.99 :-), and slapped my old game boy player on there. I still have a lot of GB and GBA games and even with the 3ds and wii, these games are just plain old FUN.

Rhythm Tengoku! Its a Japanese only game but is the one that started the franchaise. So much better than the DS on it hurts. Even has a drum simulator mini-game. Hunt it down now – you will not regret it!

Also, +1 for Mario vs Donkey Kong and you really can’t go wrong with any of the Mario Advance titles – classics one and all.

Oh yeah, Mario Golf too – that game is great

  13. HyperSonic says:

These games are all awesome; I’ve said it before, and I shall say it again.

    Golden Sun.

  14. deepthought says:

always wanted to play Ninja 5-0, but never seen it in a store… and it costs almost $40 used on amazon! ($200 new!)

  15. Josh says:

No Final Fantasy Tactics Advance? I still have not played that one.

  16. Josh says:

So Scurge: Hive is also a DS game? Does anyone know what the differences are?

  17. Artefacto says:

    @Josh

A map on the other screen. That’s about it since the game is the same, no additions whatsoever.

  18. CM30 says:

No Wario Land 4 or Mario Kart Super Circuit?

  19. David says:

I’ve been revisiting GBA games too (and GC for that matter) with the lack of new Wii and 3DS offerings. I’m about halfway through Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones at the moment, flicking between the GBA Micro, DS Phat and GB Player on the Cube. Such a great game!
Also want to put in a vote for Kurukuru Kururin that usually lives in the GBA slot of my old DS as a game which I’m always happy to pick up and play a bit of whenever I’ve got time to fill in. Simple concept but great fun and devilishly hard in parts.

  20. Craig says:

    Fire emblem was great.

  21. AznTofu says:

#20 should be the whole series in general 😀

  22. Al says:

    I love Lunar Legend:)

  23. Mike says:

I am so sad that you didn’t include my two favorite GBA games, Sonic Battle and Mega Man Battle Network 2. Sonic Battle was especially awesome because what other GBA fighting game is there?
