Pokemon cliques
Monday, June 18th, 2007 at 4:00pm by JackThis Poke-post goes out to Infendo regular invisibleman. I think he can relate. As for me, my Pokemon perception has been skewed a bit. Now I take this threat a bit more seriously… soon they’ll be taking over the world while collecting ‘em all!
Besides invis, can some Poke-fans come out of the wood work and tell me what the DS Pokemon experience has been like? I’m genuinely curious.

That Penny Arcade comic is HILARIOUS!! The sad thing is, I was in a similar situation where I had to retire my Ponyta and get a Roselia to take its place, after getting my butt handed to me by an 11-year-old that carried one! Diamond/Pearl seems to be a little bit unbalanced in favor of that particular Pokémon… But what is REALLY scary is that the fact that Mike K. and Jerry H. (the authors of the comic) know about this!
I must confess I’m not the best Pokémon fan: I’ve never finished a whole game! But this one I have got the farthest ever, and this time around I am actually raising a Pikachu as my main second battle Pokémon, something I always wanted to do in this series…
As many critics have said, this new Pokémon game is what the series always strived to be: a kind of most basic MMORPG where you face real opponents from around the world, in addition to the basic single-player adventure. If you have never played a Pokémon game before, you will be surprised at how deep and complex (even overwhelming) this RPG is.
Not to say that it is difficult! I’ve been playing also Etrian Odyssey recently, which is merely a 3D dungeon crawler, and that one is far more challenging than any Pokémon adventure by far! But Pokémon has a charm of its own, in addition to a classic gameplay that has something for everyone…
I say, forget the cheesy anime ever existed, and try it out for yourself… I still have to meet someone who doesn’t like this RPG!

The experience is, well like the other games, only better graphics, more mon, and the little add-ons. But honestly, it is a great RPG and if you like RPG games, it is a good game to get.

Referring to the podcast, if it can turn Scott Johnson in a Pokemon player, it can turn anyone.

In response to your pokemon question, the new experience has been lackluster to say the least. It’s still a good ‘ol Pokemon game, for sure. But it definitely isn’t a next-gen handheld experience. Compared to the jump from GB fo GBA, this really dissappoints. The graphics are hardly adequate for a GBA and there are no important new gameplay mechanics. it is clear that the developers got extremely lazy as they consider chnging a pixel or two so as to distinguish breeds an amazing step forward from the previous games. The game’s online is also worthless too because without matchmaking, there is no online. It is a real disappointment but for us Pokemon fans, we have to get it to advance our GBA pokemon into the next-generation.

Well, I have over 164 hours on my copy of Pearl. I’m not one to play a game that extensively if it’s not fun. Storyline-wise, the games haven’t changed much, nor has the gameplay, but the gameplay has always been top-notch.
