Gamestop Mario Galaxy call - prank version?
Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 at 9:00pm by David
Astute gamer and comic diarist, James Kochalka, hit us with the following story:
Yesterday we got the Gamestop phone call from the voice of Mario telling us that our Super Mario Galaxy pre-order would be available to pick up today. That was great, very silly and entertaining. We picked the game up this morning. This evening, I just got another automated call from Gamestop. This one said Super Mario Galaxy would be released tomorrow evening and that it was rated “mature” and we would have to be 17 years or older to pick it up.
My first thought was that it was some kind of automated prank… but there wasn’t really much to it. A very plain and blah reminder, but with the facts all wrong.
Anyone else out there get a bizarre call from their local Gamestop?

um…. no?
I think it’s just you. You can pay a small fee to figure out who left what message on your machine, I think you should figure out how to do that.

Yes I got it too! It was hilarious when they said it was M for mature
I think it was a glitch in their system

Lmao
I got this message, too.
I was like
“but I already got it…”
“WTF RATED M FOR MATURE lmao”

I got it a few minutes ago, actually. I WTF’ed as well, when the voice said it was M for Mature.

I was kinda annoyed by the Mario call. Being not 6 I found it kind of condescending… but hey, there was an audience that was entertained to who am I to quibble. Tonights call was just weird…

I as well received that call. Interesting though, you guys didn’t get the rated M version….you don’t want to know what they have Rosalina doing.

We liked the voice-of-Mario call at our house… but we have a four year old. He listened to the call about 5 times!

Got the call a few hours ago. I was confused for a second and then shruged my shoulders and went back to playing.

Got it around 8 while I was out at dinner. It was good for a chuckle. Mature Mario? I’m not sure whether to quote Springsteen or Presidents of the USA, but either way, it probably wouldn’t be appropriate here…

Me too! I see it like this: Gamestop sucks a lot. This is but another instance. Suck-wads. All of ‘em. Except the one on Clark in Chi-town… but that;s just because it’s the only one in the universe where-in the employees are nice.

Gee, if this is true, why hasn’t somebody recorded it and posted a link? Or have they…dun dun duuuuuuuun…

i beat the game last night, and mario shoots bowser in the face with a “grand-star machinegun” and then goes to princess’ castle and she gives him some cake and “hot coffee”.
so, rated M

I got this message too. I wish there was a decent alternative to GameStop in my area. Every time I go into the store to purchase or reserve something for a Nintendo platform the store clerks smirk at me and condescend. I doubt it’s their corporate agenda to alienate a growing portion of its customer base, but perhaps I’m wrong since it’s happened to me at nearly every location I’ve visited.

Had I not just arrived home with my copy of Galaxy, this call would’ve bothered me. I just hope I don’t get an automated call from Gamestop about every new release now.

Yea……I got the message too lol. It was really kind of disturbing if you ask me.

I enjoyed the call from Mario, AND am 23 years old!
Imagine! Not feeling you are being condescended to because the guy who does the voice of Mario is telling you that your game will be in tomorrow! Wow, what next–playing games with cute graphics in front of my friends and NOT giving a shit about what anyone thinks?
