Trailer - Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
Tuesday, June 10th, 2008 at 12:10pm by WillThe Castlevania games always have been that one series that has remained truly good throughout the years. After watching this trailer, it looks like this game is polished enough to be released sooner than the slated Fall 2008 date. Although that is the release date for Japan, with the US date to be announced, it seems to be another solid DS title heading for us. Although, ever since Symphony of the Night almost all the Castlevania titles have taken a more Action RPG style, do any Infendoites think it is time for a change?

Although I don’t have a problem the current games, I’d really like to see a revision of Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest. That game had a lot of promise, and some really neat ideas… it just lacked in execution. Remaking Simon’s Quest now could prove to be an interesting experiment, and would offer a brief departure from the “MetroidVania” action/exploration formula that is driving the series lately.

liking it. although i do think it could stand to be a little darker, with characters a little less jrpg-like. also wouldnt mind the action becoming a little slicker and faster paced.
it’s like mega-man: big bosses, good action, power ups. you know what you’re getting and, if you’re into that, you’ll prob be pretty happy.

Yes, traveling outside of the castle like in Castlevania 2, solving clues (that are better designed) would be great. I have been waiting for a true follow-up to Castlevania 2 for a long time.

I bought Dawn of Sorrow for the DS and finished it. It was good. Then I went back to play two GBA games that I had never tried before. To me they all seem like the same game. They say they are using glyphs in this new game, but it’s just replacing one thing with something else. I know this series has many fans, but I would only buy this game if there was a major change to the series.

Too much of the same. If you played SoTN, then any of the GBA/DS versions since, its just the same rehashed.
I do think they need to leave the Castle.

can anyone say.. GIANT ENEMY CRAB. im sorry i had to.
anyway i like whole formula for castlevania. theres a bunch of srpgs on the ds and its good to see something different. it seems like they stopped the anime inspired artwork though, which is a plus.

Normally I prefer series to evolve over time, but no, I don’t want them to really change anything. I like the games just the way they are, with new castles to explore, new (but familiar) enemies to fight and a new cheese-tastic storyline.

An absolute great franchise.
However, there have been HOW many games in the last 6 or 7 years?
Maybe mix things up a little in gameplay, keep the same ” universe” and title, but mix things up.

OLD OLD AND OLD

Perhaps they could evolve the fighting system with things like blocks and counters. An addition of some new moves would be nice too and more puzzles.
I do want them to keep the Action RPG style though.

While I have really liked the Metroidvania style games, last years Castlevania Chronicles X on PSP reminded me how good the straight action of a 2D Castlevania was (not that I had forgotten, but it was like a mighty fresh breath of air).
So yeah, I would like a straightforward action 2D Castlevania. Crap, Barnyard Blast is a parody of Castlevania and captures that style perfectly.
