New Game Get - Nintendo releases for the week ending May 24th
Sunday, May 18th, 2008 at 7:00am by David
WiiFit is it! Really, it’s the only game being released in stores for any Nintendo’s systems this week. Nothing is coming out for DS at all.
Are you picking up the next big thing?

with a 300lb weight limit? No. They seriously need to make one that is sturdier with at least a 550lb limit if they want to actually sell one to the audience that would actually need this not just have it stored in their house for company to be in awe of it. Way to push back all release dates for this HUGE release.

350Ib
but thats just what it reads the actual board can hold up to 600Ib

KonohaShinobi seems to be under the strange and mistaken impression that only fat people would want to use Wii Fit.

does this mean no vc game tomorrow?

It will hold 600lbs, but it won’t READ over 330lbs.
Something like that. You won’t break it at 600lbs, but it won’t tell you your weight or BMI correctly.

@john - no, we just haven’t heard what it’ll be.
As for WiiFit, yes, I plan to get it in a few weeks. I’m still very on the fence about the Balance Board, though .. I need to be convinced that it won’t end up at the back of my gaming cabinet, gathering dust with my Wii Zapper.

I’d LIKE to get Wii Fit… I am just lacking in the cash department at the moment. Or rather, the money-I’m-allowed-to-spend department…

Although I’m not too excited about the actual wii fit game, I am interested in seeing what other games the balance board can be used for. (ie. snowboarding, skateboarding games)

David: You’re a blogger for Infendo, right? “Intelligent passion for all things Nintendo”, correct?
You shouldn’t be on the fence about any major Nintendo release.
Were you on the fence about the Wii before it was released and became the best selling of all the current generation consoles?

Rabbitduck: Do what I did. Go to Gamespot and trade in any games you think you can live without. I traded in a handful of Gamecube games + Twilight Princess Wii and now I’m getting $50 off the price of Wii Fit.

Protip: You can get more money selling your games on Ebay. Seriously. The average price on Ebay for TP seems to be around 25-30 dollars, plus whatever you charge for shipping. If you have an edge card subscription you’ll get a bit more but probably still not as much as you would with Ebay. It may not be as convenient, but that’s what Gamestop (;)) expects of you.
As for Wii Fit, I’m definitely not getting it. I stopped playing Wii Sports only a few months after the Wii released, and that was free!

I’ve had mine pre-ordered as soon as they became available, so fingers crossed mine will be on its way soon!!

My prediction is that all who “think they’re going to get it in a couple weeks” are sorely mistaken. This thing will be next to impossible to get. Every pre-order list was closed early online and in-store because of the amount of people clamouring for this, and there’s national buzz about it as well.
I’d suggest anyone who thinks they’ll want to get it should get it right away on day one, then sell it easily if it’s just not their thing. That’s were I’m at.

I have pre-ordered mine from Amazon. Should be getting it soon. My wife & I are fit, but we just want something like this to keep track of our fitness progress since we work out separately. It will be a compliment that should be fun.

Mine’s on the way from Wal-Mart. Can’t wait!
May 18th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
I might get it.

Neko to Kuruma: Well I feel sorry for you, then. All the exposure that Wii Sports got in the media that made it almost impossible to avoid, THAT is what awaits the Wii Fit naysayers like you. If you can avoid the temptation to buy the game if only just for the peripheral that will redefine how games are made in the future, then more power to you.

My problem is not with my weight; but with the way my room is designed. The Balance Board would have to be put at an angle to the television and while that worked out well for the Wii Remote; I’m not sure that it would work the same way. It’s not Nintendo’s fault though; just the way my room is designed. I would like to get Wii Fit if only for the Balance Board alone since I think there will be bigger games coming down the pipeline using this device.

@Poochy
Just because I’ll be hearing about it all the time doesn’t mean I’ll want to play it. Wii Fit just isn’t for me. “Different strokes for different folks.” And I highly doubt that the balance board will be so well received that 10-20 years from now most/all games will be made with its functionality in mind.
Granted, Skate It’s implementation sounds interesting, but I could just go to the arcade and pay a buck to play that cabinet with the skate/snow board controller.
PS If you’re going to capitalize my sn do the “t” as well, as it doesn’t conform to English grammar rules.

Thankfully, I’m moving into my new house this week (yay home ownership?..!), so I’ll be able to lay out my living room to accomodate for Wii Fit. If I wasn’t moving from my apartment, I’d still be getting it, but I have no idea where I’d put the balance board.
But anyway, I have it preordered. It’s the first time I’ve ever preordered a game.
…actually, my mom preordered it for me. She went to reserve it for herself and as I told her I was going to buy it also, she put one down for me, too.
So! My record of NEVER having preordered a game remained technically in tact!

Gregory: I have the same problem. I use the board facing the TV for most things, but some (pushups, jackknives, certain yoga postures) I need to turn it sideways. But after going through the tutorial you don’t really need the visual reference, you just go by the vocal instructions and the whistles, etc. It works pretty well.
David: I’m pretty keen to see what We Ski does with the Balance Board. It’s already out in the US, but doesn’t come out for PAL systems until late June. And Australia…? who knows…
