Guitar Hero On Tour DS bundle is better than Guitar Hero On Tour commercial
Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008 at 9:50am by JackDon’t know if you’ve seen the cheese-ridden tragedy that is the Guitar Hero On Tour commercial or not, so here’s fair warning that it’s somewhere in this post, ready to pounce on your innocent eyes with all manner of campy sadness, without remorse.
Now, that said, this pic is a Toys R Us Nintendo DS bundle for $180. Includes Guitar Hero On Tour and a special edition silver Guitar Hero branded DS. Only has four buttons, sure, but it’s Guitar Hero on the road, if that’s your thing. I’m a studio man, myself.
Features
* NEW portable music gaming experience for Nintendo DS: Rock Out to Guitar Hero for the first time with the Innovative Guitar Grip. Utilize local wireless play to shred with your friends. Use the included pick-stylus to strum the touch activated screen.
* A New Musical Offering: Rock out to 25 monster tracks, 20 of which are exclusive to the DS, including music from a variety of classic rock, pop and alternative rock favorites.
* Gameplay Modes: Single Player Mode - Prove your guitar shredding skills. Multiplayer Modes - Players can play Face Off, Pro Face Off and Co-op and Guitar Duel together. Practice Mode - Practice using the Guitar Grip and pick-stylus.
* Authentic Rock Star Experience: Takes full advantage of Nintendo DS capabilities, including activating star power by yelling Rock Out into the DS microphone. Attacks in Guitar Duel allow you to utilize the DS in a new way.
* All of the customization and personalization Guitar Hero fans enjoy: Select from six characters including two new rockers, which are exclusive to the DS. You can also choose from a vast collection of guitars and all new musical venues.
Bah! There it is! Cover your eyes and ears! Ok, just kidding. Don’t watch it, seriously.

WTF.. I thought it was a joke this is truly the worst video game commercial I ever saw…

I do not understand people’s reaction to this commercial. Have they never heard of tongue-and-cheek comedy? Guitar Hero has NEVER taken itself seriously, has always been cheesey, and it’s always making fun of stereotypes and cliches of 80s rock. This commercial does the same only to takes it to 11. Hilarious, brilliant.
Guitar Hero Franchise = Always Cheesey = Tongue-and-cheek marketing

Is that a 50/50 silver/black DS like the red/black or blue/black one?… pretty sexy though. I’d probably skip on the decal if I could. The GH grip is ovious enough.

Um, how is this a deal? A DS is $130, and this game is going to sell for $50. $130+$50=$180… I guess if you REALLY want a silver and black DS? It just seems to me that a bundle should have some kind of a discount. Hell, at least take off $10 to make it more palatable.

Ahh. Is that seriously an advert they show on TV? That is terrible lol it really is…

Kevin, you DO get the box. I mean…it’s a nice box.

Good point, Deen. Maybe if I had a hamster…

Brandon, just because it’s tongue-in-cheek doesn’t mean it’s funny. It seems more likely that the writers heard one too many “Real Men of Genius” commercials, but forgot to copy the funny.
As for the DS, the giant slapped-on logo looks really ugly. Also I’m tired of the half-black-half-something-else color schemes. Give me an all silver DS, or something. Come on!

I’m inclined to agree. I know the commercial was being purposefully cheesy, but it still turned into an epic fail. If it were just a bad commercial it wouldn’t be so bad, but they were actively trying to be hip and cool by being “uncool” and they fell short by a mile.
Did I say it failed yet?

The ad got posted on every video game blog and review site I read. Fail? I don’t think so. Huge marketing success.
June 3rd, 2008 at 5:12 pm
Um, normally video game blogs and review sites post trailers and gameplay videos whenever they’re available. It would only be a huge marketing success if the game sold a ton of copies just based on the commercial itself. Also, you know, if it met with a majority of positive feedback, which hasn’t really happened.

I think they were trying to do a “jack black stylish humor” or something, but it didn’t go quite right. Anyway, guitar hero will never look to appealing for me and my ds, no matter how good or bad the commercial is.

Come on, it was clearly a deliberately over-the-top bad advertisement. They clearly wanted to get people talking about the ad, and it worked. People are criticising the ad, not the game, and it’s raising awareness. PR success.

tounge - and - cheek = not a phrase.
tounge - in - cheek = not a good way to market this game.
this commercial = puuuuure crap that makes me glad to play a real guitar and not activision’s toy for 8 year olds.
