Guitar Hero DS: On Tour shreds to 11 with new grip

Sure, Blake, Guitar Hero 3 may be the best online Wii game so far, but does it also boast the best accessory ever? I think not! The DS does, and you can see in action in this campy Guitar Hero DS: On Tour YouTube commercial!

Wow. I’ve got to hand it to Activision; I did NOT expect something like that. I’m intrigued.

what els can they think of
March 19th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
That is so ridiculous.

Finally. I version I might actually play and not feel like a jackass.

THATS AWESOME!!!! Guitar Hero on the go! Except the peripheral only has Green, Red, Yellow, and Blue buttons, no orange
But Cool!

There’s a very slim chance that I’d get it. It’s going to be at least $40 if not more. Since the GBA slot is being used for the controller, cheap expansion packs won’t be happening (they’ll just have us buy another fully priced cart.) And to top it off, the controller is missing the orange button and there seems to be no room to rest all your fingers comfortably. Oh, and with the omission of the orange button the difficulty won’t be anywhere near where I want it.
This was originally posted at IGN, by the way.

Wow, it always bothered me how al the art direction in Gh was so cheesy, but this commercial is jst to much. It’s like the sort of thing you see on during saturday morning cartoons.

I will SO get that game!! no questions asked. It will be mine!
March 19th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
Wow! That’s pretty cool! I have always thought Guitar hero was cool, but now it’s on the DS!

Depending of what songs are available in it (which at this point might be hopeless, since the good ones are already taken…), I might consider it…

It looks like around 0:47 his guitar bursts into flame and then immediately after that he blows into the microphone to put out the flames. I really hope that “feature” can be turned off.
March 19th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
Wow, what? At the same time that I hate the idea, I really want to try it.

OHHHHHH MY. Freakin’ sweet. Now the only thing missing is decent audio.

@Cephas: Let me just quote the IGN article I previously referenced (that I will now also link to.)
“The game’s battle mode will feature similar gameplay as the mode created in Guitar Hero III, with power-ups created specifically for Guitar Hero: On Tour. For example…” “…out-of-control pyrotechnics will be set ablaze, and players will have to blow them out using the Nintendo DS microphone.”

That girl has a nice butt
March 19th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
Looks interesting.
And it is nice to see some coverage of the DS on this site, for a change.
It is , afterall, the most successful Nintendo system ever…

Me likey. If same songs as GHIII, I will NOT buy, though. Cool peripheral.
March 19th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
AWESOME! I would never able to play up to Orange anyway, so I don’t care.
March 20th, 2008 at 4:05 am
meh… not digging it. do it Daigasso Band Brothers style. then it’s good.
it looks ok, but the grip thing is weird, and the blowing with the mic is cheezy. may check it out. hope it has non-grip controls.

I can see why they’d want to get one of the most successful franchises out there onto one of the highest selling game systems around, but isn’t the whole “thing” with Guitar Hero that you’re playing a (fake) guitar? As toy-like as the controller for the console version is, it really does help immerse you in the game.

When I first heard about GH for the DS I figured it was just going to be some crappy rip-off that really had nothing to do with the actual GH feel, but then they go and drop a cool peripheral like that that still gives you the fret buttons. Looks really cool!
2 more things: there’s prolly only 4 fret buttons because the DS screen is only so wide and with it vertical it’d be really hard to see the notes if you were cramming 5 in there; and I’m not sure how easy this would be to actually play with, having to strum the touch screen while looking at the screen that’s to the left of your hand. I know there’s no better way to do it, but it just looks like it’d get uncomfortable very fast.
March 20th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
I think it’s weird that it goes into the Gameboy slot and not the DS one…
March 20th, 2008 at 5:18 pm
@Nitsua:
The game itself goes into the DS Slot. That’s just the peripheral that goes into the GBA slot. The same concept was used for the knob peripheral for Arkanoid DS.

Dear developers,
It’s NOT mantatory to implement the blow function in DS games.
