Castlevania ReBirth revealed through ESRB

castlevaniaEarlier this month we saw Contra ReBirth make it’s way to North America’s WiiWare service, and it looks like Konami’s not slowing down.  From the ESRB website:

Platform: Wii
Rating: Teen
Content descriptors: Animated Blood, Fantasy Violence

Rating summary: This is a side-scrolling action game in which players battle against monsters in Dracula’s castle. Players use a chained whip to fight their way through halls and dungeons filled with zombies, skeletons, flying eyeballs, and bats. The enemy creatures frequently shoot projectiles and attack players in hand-to-hand combat. If players sustain too much damage, they keel over and emit a burst of red blood. Some rooms in the castle also have spikes or spears stained with red, blood-like splotches.

No word if or when we are going to see this hopeful gem flicker across our screens, but let’s all thank the ESRB, Kotaku, and GoNintendo for the heads up!

Just like I think the Wii is finally coming to its own with games and good 3rd party titles, I think WiiWare is finally being used for what it should have been.

Mega Man 9 started it, and it’s continued with Contra Rebirth, and now Castlevania Rebirth. I love these 8 Bit/16 bit new sequels. This what I want, along with great original titles like Lost Winds and World of Goo.

This game better not be as hard as the original. As Joystiq joked this week, no one knows if that game even has a second level.

Never been a huge fan of Castlevania myself, but I’m still excited for this just out of excitement for this resurgence of 2D platformers. It’s always been one of my favorite genres, and it was already pretty much dead on home consoles by the time I started gaming (my first console was the N64). Very glad to see that its not just me and there is still a sizable market for it.
