Iwata is Optimistic About 3D Console Gaming

Friday, June 18th, 2010 at 2:45pm by Zacko

Now that we’ve all seen Nintendo’s foray into the 3D realm with the 3DS, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Iwata is also considering 3D implementation with their consoles as well. In fact, they believe its the future.

“In the future, 3D will become the mainstream of gaming…If you display a 3D image, the image quality becomes extremely bad, so we’d probably do it with the next system. We’re thinking that the timing should be once the 3D television adoption rate crosses the 30% mark.”

“In 3D, it’s easier to get a sense for position. In a game where the stages extend into the screen, it’s surprisingly easier to control [compared to non 3D]. This is functionality for making games more pleasant to play, not just for show

“Nintendo had an eye on the charms of immersive 3D for games and released a 3D game machine 15 years ago, but the technology was not ready. Two years back, we decided that we finally had the technology and parts to make a satisfying product.”

So, the Wii’s successor will be 3D ready, huh? Makes a lot of sense, actually. It seems like Nintendo’s take on 3D is going to be “we have it if you want it.” What do you guys think? Do you want a 3D Nintendo Console?

PSA For Nintendo Fans

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010 at 9:04pm by Zacko

If you haven’t checked out Nintendo’s E3 Network yet, check it out! They’ve got screenshots and trailers for most of the great new games announced by the Big N this morning. They’ve also got some in depth interviews with Miyamoto, Sakurai, and others about the 3DS, Kid Icarus, and others. They’ve even got footage from the Nintendo Booth itself. I found myself sucked in by all the content, and figured not everyone may be aware of it. Enjoy! I’m going to watch that Donkey Kong trailer again.

Fake Reggie Twitter Account Suspended; Real Reggie Should Take a Hint

Friday, June 4th, 2010 at 3:30pm by Zacko

A few days ago, a Twitter account appeared that had Nintendo fans both skeptical and delighted. Reggie Fils-Aime (@NintendoReggie) began speaking to the Twitterverse about how he had played the demo to the latest Zelda Wii title, talking smack to Kevin Butler (@thekevinbutler, VP at PlayStation) about the PSP Go, and teasing the announcement of a “beloved franchise” to be announced at E3.

However, this afternoon, the account was pulled by Twitter, no doubt after Nintendo put the kai-bosh on this impostor. While this hype train clearly was fake from the get-go (Reggie of all people is know for being tight-lipped and trying to keep the hype under control), it makes me wonder why more executives don’t use this tool. After all, Kevin Butler is on Twitter and is very interactive with Sony fans. Granted, its not exactly a priority for Reggie (or any other executive for that matter), but it did seem like it could have been a good opportunity to generate excitement among Nintendo fans.

And don’t try to tell me that Nintendo already does this with their official account (@NintendoAmerica). We all know that account is crap.
