Zelda: A Link to the Past tops GamePro’s “30 Greatest 16-Bit Games”

In his “blast from the past” article, author McKinley Noble writes:
It’s completely inadequate to say that A Link to the Past is an epic adventure, especially considering the fact that it had to follow the neglected Zelda II from the old NES days. Not only was A Link to the Past a return to some short roots for the series, but it was one of the longest games you could play… arguably the most memorable RPG of all time.
Just reading that makes me want to play again. Quick! To the Virtual Consoles, men!

Can’t be the most memorable RPG if it isn’t an RPG. Still a great game, though. My favorite in the series until Twilight Princess came around.

This game is my absolute most favorite game ever. I can play this game over and over again without getting bored.
Maybe I’m just an ALttP fanboy…XD

I hate it when people call Zelda an RPG…

Zelsa IS a RPG… why would it be something else? Your character evolves, he gets new powers, has a huge open world to explore… what is missing that wouldn’t classify it as an RPG? Plus, it is likely to be the first game to feature a big open world…
Best!!

It is a brilliant game, I love these old Zelda games. I’m actually playing Oracle of Seasons right now, and I’ve played Link to the Past and Minish Cap in the last few months.

Well, that makes me want to play it… FOR THE FIRST TIME!
I actually own the GBA version, which happens to be the top-rated GBA game ever, according to Metacritic. Time to take a look at it, I guess…

None of those things are what classifies an RPG. I can think of a lot of games with big maps and powerups which aren’t RPGs, by this logic, Metroid and Super Mario 64 are RPGs.
