Jimi Hendrix burned a guitar in his grave today, as owners of Guitar Hero (4) World Tour will no longer be allowed to download new songs without upgrading to Guitar Hero 5. Or so it seems, if recent comments made by Activision are to be believed.

“Guitar Hero 5 downloadable content will be compatible with future Guitar Hero and Band Hero games,” a representative told Dtoid on Saturday. “However, the advancements and innovations made to the franchise (band moments, expert+ drumming, vocal star power) do not allow for downloadable content to be backwards compatible with Guitar Hero World Tour.”

On the other hand, Guitar Hero 5 will be able to import and play all previously released Guitar Hero track packs.
