WiiWare games available on Amazon

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009 at 9:11am by David

world of goo

So I received a tweet from Amazon Games today saying that World Of Goo for Wii was available for sale.  You apparently pay Amazon and they give you a download code to use on your Wii.  The price ($14.99) was close to the 1500 points it costs on the Wii Shop Channel, so I was left wondering .. What is the benefit of buying a WiiWare game through Amazon?

The advantage is the ability to only pay for the exact number of Wii points you intend to use to purchase said game, rather than in increments.

You could also use Paypal to pay for it. My brother often will put some money into my Paypal account for my kids’ birthdays, Christmas… You could use that money to buy the Wiiware games.

There seems to be almost no point, excluding what Matt said.

Amazon Prime members get free shipping.

I like what Matt said. Hopefully, they’ll add more games. It would be nice to buy a $5 Wiiware game this way, rather than having to buy double the points I need.

It’ll also be a great way to get more exposure for Wiiware, even if only the high profile games get featured this way.

Here to echo. I was never a huge fan of the points system – although I prefer Nintendo’s to Microsoft’s, where one point is equal to one penny.

Although a disadvantage could be sales tax – I don’t recall ever being charged for sales tax when using my credit card to purchase Wii points through my console – yet you are charged sales tax for buying gift cards of the same. Still, not having leftover points might be worth a little tax.

You do pay sales tax on Wii Points purchased on the console, or at least I did just last week, here in New York State.

I’m thinking I could buy WiiWare on Amazon and use my Amazon Visa credits, or earn Amazon Visa points. I always like to do that. :) Also, having a small balance of Wii Points always makes me itch to buy more Wii Points (grr!) so it’d be nice to buy more games this way.

    LOL @ Mike “free shipping”

I think the idea of buying a game for $15 rather than having to buy $20 of points is the real incentive here.

But I also think that it helps get the game out there: “I have heard about World Of Goo, so let’s search for it on Amazon .. Oh, it’s available for Wii, cool!”

It’s a great way to get the games out into the general public’s view .. otherwise you’re doomed to trolling websites for news and then waiting for the Wii Shop Channel to load.
