Need a new WiiWare game. Been hearing really good things about NyxQuest (pictured), a platformer, and Bit Trip Beat (after the break), a pong-like rhythm game. Any owners out there want to defend their favorite and show me the light?
So your real question should be, do I want Bit.Trip Beat or Bit.Trip Core.
Both games are extremely difficult, so if you like a challenge, go for it.
I prefer the Pong-esque controls of Beat over Core’s control scheme. In Core, you have to use the d-pad to aim in the right direction (up, down, left, right) and then press the 2 button to fire. For a rhythm-based game, it would’ve made more sense to eliminate the fire button and just automatically fire whenever you push a direction.
Anyway, Bit.Trip Beat vs Bit.Trip Core, I have to vote for Beat. But they are both VERY VERY challenging games.
Bit Trip Beat is the best game I’ve played on Wiiware. That teaser trailer doesn’t do it justice, in my opinion. Those clips are from the first half of the first stage, and it gets much more exciting later on.
I agree Will. Why did they have to go all George Lucas on the name? Is somebody afraid people won’t care about the Kid Icarus game if and when it finally arrives?

I agree with David’s post.
Bit.Trip Beat is more enjoyable (for me) because it is old-school pong remake and features an excellent use of Wii remote as a paddle controller… but Bit.Trip Core has more “triptastic” graphics and might be the better choice if you are looking for an actual rhythm game.
Picking between the two will probably come down to personal preference. Both games are worth trying, and both are much more engrossing than you would expect from watching a trailer online.

According to the official site, Nyxquest is not out in the U.S. yet. Shame, it looks really awesome! Can’t wait for that one!
So I guess you’ll have to go with Bit Trip Beat. I haven’t played it either, but I’ve heard good things.

I wish they didn’t change the name from Icarian: Kindred Spirits
