Ze Rumor: F-Zero coming to Wii
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008 at 9:51pm by Jack
Infendo tipster Will dropped an interesting little rumor on us this evening: F-Zero is making a triumphant return, and is making it on the Wii.
If you read German, then have a ball with this:
Ein offizieller Nachfolger zu F-Zero GX erscheint auf dem Nintendo Wii. F-Zero Z, so der Titel des Future-Racers wird voraussichtlich alle Strecken des Gamecube Vorgängers beinhalten und über einen Onlinemodus verfügen. Ein Waffensystem wurde auch bestätigt. Auf der diesjährigen E3 soll der Titel von Big N vorgestellt werden…
That’s good enough for me! Looks like F-Zero might be one of the many announcements being made at E3 in July, no?

I’m pretty sure we all knew this would happen. As a rabid F-Zero fan, though, I can’t be happier. They’re releasing it around the same time in the Wii’s lifecycle as they did with GX in the cube’s lifecycle. Cool beans.

I’ve thought every F-Zero after the first one was cheesy. Loved the first one though.

BTW, it translates as this
An official successor to F-Zero GX appears on the Nintendo Wii. F-Zero Z, is the title of the futures Racers will be all lines of the GameCube predecessor, and include an online mode. A weapon system was also confirmed. At this E3, the title of Big N will be presented…

Please, PLEASE, no Wii functionality. I want to be able to boost with a button, not a thrust, and drive with an analog stick, not a baton.

Yeah a rumor about an established Nintendo franchise getting a Wii game, that’s a stretch.

I’d be shocked if they didn’t do an F-Zero for the Wii eventually. I wonder if it’ll use motion controls or just go the “hardcore” route and go to the GC/Classic controller. Or it could go the Mario Kart route and do both which would be great as long as motions weren’t tacked on.
Just please… PLEASE don’t make the game as impossibly hard as GX to unlock all the cool vehicles.

I was able to unlock all the drivers and vehicles on GX, but I didn’t get past the second or third mission in the single-player story mode. That was unbearably difficult.

But yeah, this is great news. I imagine we’ll hear confirmation from Nintendo sooner than E3. The Nintendo Media Summit is this week, after all.

This was kinda obvious to me, it’s always just been a matter of time before its release.
Like others here I simply couldn’t do the single player missions on GX simply because it was too difficult. I’m up for a challenge as much as the next guy bot GX, that’s something else entirely.
Also, a weapon system? I realise Wipeout kinda copied f-zero with the main concept, but now F-Zero is copying Wipeout?
Since this is a nintendo made game, I can see it using the same control options as Mario Kart - Wii Wheel or classic controller/GC Pad for hardcores

I really hope it offers the challenge that GX did. They could include more challenge levels though to open up the game to a bigger crowd but I really enjoyed pushing myself to clear the missions in GX, perfecting the tracks and then finally clearing the levels on hard was so satisfying when you succeeded.
I just really hope they don’t take away the possibility to get challenged like you where in GX altogether since that is much of what made GX so great.
The weapon system has me really concerned and I really hope it’s for certain modes only, if it’s included in the standard races I think it is likely to ruin the game.

I loved GX. I hope this one is done by those folks. I’d go as far to say that GX should have been held for Wii’s launch. Glad to hear it will be heading to the Wii.

^It would’ve been held for 3 years :(. You love torturing people don’t you.
Weapon system? I’m all giddy for a new F-Zero, but they’re about to introduce a weapon system. I don’t know what this will do to the game, but it better not mess it up. Oh yea Nintendo, bring Sega back in on this will ya? That Nintega development is killer.

Can’t say I’m excited. I’m a little bit of a snob when it comes to racing games. The physics, controls, and responsiveness of Wipeout are just so much more satisfying.
It’s a totally backwards scenario. I think this is the only game series where Sony has vastly superior production values than Nintendo. I bought a PSP just for Wipeout Pure and haven’t regretted it once.
The only exceptions are the original F-Zero (which was great), and Wipeout Fusion (which was utter crap).

I’m sorry to disappoint you my friends from overseas, but as you can read here >> http://www.planet-nintendo.de/?news=19179&name=Kein_F-Zero_Z_fuer_Nintendo_Wii

it translates to:
NO F-Zero for Nintendo Wii
They explain that they we’re pranked by some april fools day rumor…
But come on, two major Nintendo franchise racing titles in one single year? We’ll get it next year.
Germans love Scott Johnson!
