Will Wii soon own over 50% of worldwide console market?

VGChartz is the source of the graph that shows us 45% of worldwide current gen consoles on the market are Wii. Wii Fit seems poised to push Wii sales past the 50% mark. Do you think the hype surrounding its North American release later this month will spur a slew of new console sales?

50%? It’s inevitable.
I’m just enjoying watching Nintendo dust Microsoft, whose console has been out a full year longer.

At least they actually seem to be bothered about peoples fitness?

Yeah, but, it’s just a fad!!

It’s weird but Wii fit is going to do alright and many women are thinking about getting it, it would seem. But what is funny how THEY know about the pole dancing game and the gamers have ignored it…LOL Seriously that game is going to push more console than you think, then you have Wii fit, then you have Wii ware for the hardcore and depending on what nintendo and 3rds parties say during E3 if they even attend will likely get more people to buy one yet hold up? The fact that it’s sold out and nintendo is increasing production say this will happen really soon. The metal gear online thing did not receive as much hype as I though it would and actually turned off some gamers yet MG4 better done really good numbers to skew that pie chart and GearsOfWar 3 will have to do great numbers also but I just wonder if GTA4 had the mario or nintendo game effect on these up coming games and system sells? I guess we will see. The hardcore online are doing there best to say hardcore gamers are not buying this system yet it’s the fact that they are actually making games for both segments and games like bloom blocks may actually seal the deal for this system. Hybrid games are what we call good games back in the day are starting to pop up it seems and even valve is thinking about doing a Wii game.

Then perhaps it’s time that more third partys should try putting some high budget titles on the market. Perhaps it’s the oposite though, they might think it wouldn’t be fair to sony and microsoft to do that since nintendo is doing so well even whitout such efforts

They are also poised to overtake the XBox360 in the U.S.

@Myst GIVE IT TIME IT’S THE 3RD PARTIES THAT ARE GOING TO BE PISSED. Sorry but a 100 million for GTA is pretty serious. Can you imagine what square is going to have to pay to out do that? Now if GTA is bigger than FF13 some people will be pissed. Believe me things are going to get heated and lots of guys are going to get left behind. There are so many studio closings and shake ups right now yet lots of these guys didn’t even try Wii development. Hell the Wii saved a few companies actually one starts with an M.
So in the end the developers end up not being fare to their talent if they are ignored because they are no hyped in a magazine.

Nintendo is selling more hardware than anyone expected. But for the Wii to consistently outsell the PS3 and 360 combined for the long haul? I just don’t see it happening. I don’t believe the Wii will lose ground to the competition but 50% is a bit out of reach in my humble opinion.

It’s 45% right now… The hardcore are resisting the casuals are completely hooked and the retro guys are loving it. The constant delays are going to hurt SONY… after years of flames from xbox fans they will just drop out or get a Wii. The xbox 360 still has not captured what it means to be a console yet due to 3rd parties games which try to be PC games.
It’s at 45% and nintendo just upped their production! I hope you are not going off the but nothing is coming out idea. Since it’s launch people have said that but for some reason people are buying games. Another thing too this system does not need cheer leaders which actually make the system out to be elite.

Yeah, hitting 50% is beyond difficult. I’m not sure they are outselling the PS3+360 by a factor of 2 to 1 globally. They’ll pick up more market share as 360 loses it, but I don’t know if they can realistically hit 50.

“I don’t believe the Wii will lose ground to the competition but 50% is a bit out of reach in my humble opinion.”
50% of the actual market is out of reach, 50% of the market, including all these newcomers, moms, dads, and casuals will be possible

Didn’t ps2 sell like 100+million consoles, while gamecube and xbox were in the 20’s of millions?
thats a lot more than 50%, while the wii can not do it?

Boo Ya!
When you analyze this too much it becomes cold and sterile. It’s a fad, it does not matter. Do I care? NO! Nintendo is winning bottom line, suck it up and shut up.
Kaz….the PS3 will NEVER catch up to wii.

This is all falling in line with my earlier speculation and thoughts. That the Wii wouldn’t become a priority focus until its’ hardware sales equal the combined amount of PS3 and 360 sales.
