Wiimbledon crew to start Wii Bowling League

From the ‘why the hell hasn’t someone thought of this already file’ comes news that the Wiimbledon gang in NYC is set to unleash some Wii Bowling League goodness to the masses in the near future.
Steve Bryant, half of the duo behind the recent smash-hit Wiimbledon event, has gone in with Internet media guru Tim Shey to create Wii Bowl NY, a new Wii Bowling League. Details are slim at the moment, and the website isn’t up as of this writing, but Bryant does have a few words for us as to his plans for the league…
“We expect it to be like a corporate softball league — weekly games, three-person teams, played at various bars around the city. Probably start in September once everybody’s back from vacation.”
Truthfully, it’s not the first time the Wii Bowling League idea’s been floated down the Internet pipeline. However, the boys in NYC behind Wimbledon have some street cred now, so this league might have a better chance at longevity and publicity. Sometimes it’s not about thinking of the idea first, it’s about how you market it and convince everyone that you thought of it first. Just ask the SIXAXIS.
On a personal note, this kind of idea just SCREAMS for an online bulletin board where you could have a virtual league and compete, with teams, against people from all over the world. I can’t get to NYC to play in this league, and similar ventures just don’t exist around where I live right now. Apparently this kind of functionality is too dangerous for Nintendo to implement. There’s the children to consider, right?

The only problem with attempting to do this using Wii Sports bowling is its [accidentally] built-in sure-Strike glitch: once everyone who plays the mini-game long enough discovers it, it will be boring as heck to just sit there watching strike after strike with not even a spare happening at any time!

you play too much invisible. most people wont learn that thing, whatever it is. i never even heard of it. and even so, its still something that would take skill to pull off unless you are saying you can aim anywhere and it still gives you a strike.
while these are called competitions, that doesnt mean all the people in it are pros, being corporate, and at a bar, its more like people using this as an excuse to get together and have a good time with a sport they enjoy, but otherwise dont spend alot of time playing, but this would make it more convenient and relaxing to play bowling while drinking with friends.
and that jab by jack was so non-sensical. you mentioned internet and bulliten board. you could have 1 person with a list that all people in the tournament area would join and they would get wiimails updating them on stuff. but really, the actual internet is best for that, and you can visit that from the wii browser or a computer. what does nintendo have to do with that? it isnt there job to cater to official tournaments, wii sports isnt that kind of game, even though people use it for such. even then, they just make the game, and its up to the gamers to work out tournament details including desimination of info.
also, if you are talking about leaderboards or what-not, that is coming in alot of wii games, and wii sports 2 may have that, but how can you expect it to happen for wii sports 1, a launch game before the internet was implimented for gaming. you should be over that by now, and looking to the future, where their online options are looking much better then last gen, though you should stick to computers, and at worst xb360 if you desperately need all that online functionality in every game you play. i am luckily happy just playing games, single or multi, and have the luck of having friends to play with, and knowing where to find more.
