WiiFit: First major game to not be a game
Friday, October 5th, 2007 at 10:47am by Blake
Edge has a preview of the upcoming (and controversial) WiiFit.
Wii Fitness is a simple concept executed very well, and the fact that it angered some of the gaming world at its announcement is more an indictment of the industry than an understanding of how it can change the way non-gamers see consoles.
It should be interesting to see how “gamey” the title ends ups being… (i.e. the ski jump game, which I love).

I’m buyin’ it.

If it is $70, I’ll buy it.
If it is the rumored $100, I’ll wait until another game uses the board.

Yeah, $ is fine for me, but $100 is too much, for both casual or long time gamers to get on this.
I´m interested, but not $100 interested.

calling wii fit “not a game” is like calling dance dance revolution not a game.

It could be the next eyetoy kinetic…

Nintendo should try to get this product installed in fitness clubs. I would imagine it would drive sales up the charts.

first, its not controversial to any but a few scared gamers
second it does have games, like the ski game (it takes score i bet), and the soccer dodging game, amongst others we dont know yet.
nintendo already has wii in fitness clubs so they dont have to do anything, fitness clubs will put in wiifit.
wiifit will not be near as dead as the eyetoy because it is not niche like eyetoy looking as complicated as it does. (may not be complicated to you, but i can imagine eyetoy making no sense to the layman.
Wiifit is obviously easy to use. nintendo is also great at making sure you know exactly what to do when. videos so far have shown its intuitive use. and its practical for fitness practicioners since it has the programs they want to use.
$100 may be too much for you, but its not being sold to you, or even necessarily the casual gamer. its being sold to the person who wants to stay fit and have fun too, and they will easily pay $100 for such a system. look at the revenue of the fitness industry and the cost of many electronic fitness hardware today. all nintendo has to do is show why the product is so appealing and they will eat it up.
also, as gamers we are used to buying low margin products. but high margin products are not unusual to most other industries. even if nintendo only made the whole package for $30, retailers expecting to get 2x margins on this thing is not unusual, because you buy products based on what you percieve getting out of it, not what it originally cost.

If you have stayed up late one night ans started seeing al these gadgets and soloflex products and saw the price as expensive, this product isn’t for you. A good digital weightboard that measures accurate bmi will cost you $60 An interactive one will cost you over $500 that gives printouts and stuff like that. Whatever Nintendo puts out for less than $200 would be amazing compared to the best in the $800 price range.

I guess I am not buying into the Wii Fit board. I’d rather go to my kick boxing class and swim in real life. Maye if a new game came out that was a game.
I like games.

I’m not sure if I’d ever get Wii Fit myself, but I really hope that it does very well just so i can chuckle as all “t3h h4rdc0r2 g4m3rz” get their pantie in a knot over it.

@ peshue
Why do “t3h h4rdc0r2 g4m3rz” get all pissed when a diffrent concept goes well. Should’t they just go play the core games themselves adn laugh at the casuals.
I swear some people should just chill and be happy. Nintendo still makes core games while expanding the market. All “Hardcore” gamers should know now if they want a ton of games catered to them they need a Wii and a PS360.
