Wii wriststraps: version 3.0

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007 at 12:07am by Jake

Newwriststraps

I just received the latest generation of wrist straps today. “Version 3.0” was silently released a few weeks ago, which has left die hard Wii Sports fans requesting an immediate shipment. The great new feature is the locking mechanism which grips the strap to prevent the slider from loosening. This helps greatly with physical input Wii games.

Nintendo is now packaging the new straps with their respective products. Getting the updated straps is free and easy. Just head over to Nintendo customer service, tell them that you want the new straps, and poof, you got’em.

Update: I’ve been getting a lot of emails due to ordering issues. Let me clarify the process. Since most of us ordered the version 2 straps via wrist strap replacement order form back in January, Nintendo won’t let you use that order form a second time. That’s why I provided the link above. It will send you directly to a customer service request, where you just write up a few lines asking for the latest straps. Within a few days, Nintendo will reply with your ordering needs. Simple. Shoot me an email if you are still having trouble understanding/ordering.

    woot! first comment!

I really don’t see what was wrong with 2.0; mine never slipped down…

I’ve only used the straps when playing Wii Sports, and I haven’t been putting much time into it recently. But for the few times that my cousins come over (or someone not properly trained in “Wii-etiquette”) it’s a necessary precaution. Anything to keep the TV from lying shattered in ruin.

I got these Wii straps as well a few weeks ago.

Nintendo are genius’. By constantly replacing the wrist straps at even the smallest complaint, it shows everyone how much they care, without them having to spend any money! I mean, how much do wrist straps really cost them to produce on a large scale? 0.001p?

Does anyone know if these are available in the UK?

I have checked the Nintendo Europe site and their diagrams are showing the 2.0 - thicker straps only - version.

I just ordered some from the website, however, since I had already gotten 2 replacements (V2.0) and I had requested 4, they have stated the following:

Wii Remote Wrist Strap Replacement Request
Your request for additional strap(s) has exceeded the maximum quantity allowed per Wii serial number. We’ve added a total of 2 strap(s) to your earlier request. Please note that additional requests for straps are shipped separately.

It seems like the maximum allowed per Wii Serial # is 4.

I was told by Nintendo that I did NOT buy my system before the cut off date and so no straps. You might want to unpdate your info telling people that EVERYONE gets free straps.

Still have version 1.0, and still don’t have any issues ;-)

How long until someone pulls them too tight, locks it on, and their hand rots and falls off?

That link is if you havn’t already ordered ver 2.0. Since I already ordered 2.0 through that order form, they wouldn’t let me again. That’s when you send them a written request.

    I ordered 3 Wiistraps V2.0… can i still order the V3.0 ones?

I sent this in to Infendo almost 3 weeks ago! Anyways if you want the wrist straps do what I did (I already used my serial number to get 4 version 2.0 wrist straps). Write down a friends or relatives serial number for their wii who are not going to get the new wrist straps and enter it in and get the new ones for yourself! worked for me!!!

    @ Jack

Yeah, I still have my ORIGINALS.
You see, if you do not act like a moron, and you hold tight the Wii mote, there is nothing to worry about, seriously.
However, if you have kids and a nice LCD tv, I see why people might be interested in getting the ” better” ones.

For me, with no kids , my originals are just fine. My HD LCD is safe.

So … is this US only or what?

I received 4 of the v2.0 straps. I used the webform and sent this:

I would like to request the new wiimote locking straps. Pertinent information below.
    wii serial number: xxxxx
    My Name
    555 My Address
    Mytown Mystate, 55555
    thank you.

    I received this reply:

    ———-

    Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Wii Remote wrist straps. The free replacement offer for straps was made available for consumers who had purchased their Wii Remotes back in November and December of 2006 and received the original version of the strap. If you have a later version of the strap, it is not necessary to replace them with the most current version. More information on the original strap replacement offer is available at:

My guess is, they misunderstood what I was asking for, or they’re making it harder to get free straps!

  20. astanix says...

I just used the original strap replacement form as I never got replacement straps in the first place. I’ve been using 1.0 straps since launch with no problems.

  21. Norbert says...

How is it not necessary? I hate my current 2.0 straps, they always loosen around my wrists. It’s annoying.

[...] For those still flailing wildly during Wii Sports, good news. Nintendo has released the fourth version of its Wii-mote strap and giving them away. For free! Remember, these have little lock thingy that keeps the strap from loosening. Nintendo’s packaging the updated straps with its products and is also giving out four per serial number to those who need them. How nice of them! Just provide the necessary info on the Nintendo site. I’m curious: Do people continue to swing their Wii-mote around all crazy like? Request one here [Nintendo via Infendo] [...]
