Wii Shop Channel Monday - My Pokémon Ranch and two NES imports

My Pokémon Ranch - WiiWare - 1,000 Wii Points
Enjoy the relaxing ranch life by viewing your ranch and its Pokémon, taking pictures and sending those pictures to your friends via the Wii Message Board. The more Pokémon and Miis you bring to your ranch, the more fun it becomes. My Pokémon Ranch can be linked with the Nintendo DS Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl Game Cards to deposit the Pokémon you’ve caught in these games in your ranch. [Developed by Ambrella, published by Nintendo]
And two NES Imports after the jump!
Dig Dug - NES Import - 1985 - 600 Wii Points
Become Dig Dug, the champion of love and justice, as you drill up, down, left and right, defeating any enemies in your path. Avoid the persistent Pooka and the deep-dwelling but whimsical Fygar as you defeat all the enemies in order to clear each stage. [Developed and published by Namco]
Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa - NES Import - 1988 - 600 Wii Points
Players take on the role of baby Upa, a prince of the Akuyo kingdom. Prince Upa must take on an adventure spanning seven different worlds in order to rescue the kingdom from the dangerous demon Zai. [Developed and published by Konami]
I’m surprised that Dig Dug was never released for NES in the US; it’s a classic arcade game and one of my favorites. Anything you’re looking forward to this week?

Today is a dud for me.
June 9th, 2008 at 8:39 am
Agreed, Hunter, but the good news is that there are already a bunch of WiiWare games I still need to buy .. it’s nice to give my wallet a week off!

Boooo!!!

Dud.
And they pick Dig Dug for an import? Double dud. That game isn’t worth the extra 100 points.

Here’s a suggestion: Have Dig Dug dig a little hole, fill it with these games, and then fill it in.

I love Dig Dug, but since I already have it on the Namco Museum, I don’t see any reason to get it again. Oh well, maybe next week.

I’ll Probably get My Pokemon Ranch, but I need to buy another points card first. I’m not in any hurry though.

Wow, no love for Dig-Dug? D:

I’m not liking this Wiiware thing. I am probably the only one but I kind of want more VC games, and wiiware has really slowed down the VC.

Wow, I can’t believe they are charging an Import Price for Digdug, wasn’t it released in the US?
June 9th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
an import price for dig dug is a joke, i’ve played it on so many american systems by now there’s nothing else to call it. it hasn’t aged well anyway.
the other import looks like steaming crap.
it offends me that nintendo wants you to pay 1000 points for a green lounge for your pokemon and miis. beyond useless.

Gotta love the comments sections on Nintendo sites. Bitch, bitch and more bitch. Nothing they ever do is good enough. Dig Dug is still a good game. Don’t know about the other one but I’ll wait for reviews to pass judgement. As far as Pokemon Ranch goes, there are some kids that are going to love that game. If these don’t appeal to you, wait 7 days. There’s more on the way.

Meh, if I still had my copy of Pearl I’d probably pick up Ranch, but I traded it in a long time ago.
I’m considering getting Pokemon Platinum when it comes out, and if I do I’ll probably get this to go along with it.

Yeah I always wondered why the nes had dig dug II but not the first one. Maybe they thought it was too “atari”.
June 9th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
@GradiusFan - I think you hit it. That game was plenty played out by the time NES hit the US. Dig Dug II was pretty sweet.
Isn’t it weird that Mr Driller is the son of the character from Dig Dug?

Well; we get two more games that didn’t get released in America. As much as I like Dig Dug back then; I’ve played the game on Commodore 64 and have no interest of playing it now. Bio Miracle looks pretty funny at least from a premise standpoint; but I’m not going to make a ruling on it until I get a chance to play it..Again; I need the MON…EY which is in short supply right now. As for Pokemon Ranch; is there some sort of inside joke about the graphics? Seriously; it seems every Pokemon appearance in 3D looks lame at best and terrible at worst compared to other 3D. I don’t think it’s unintentional anymore judging by this one. I’m not really interested in Pokemon Ranch; I’m still getting through Pokemon Pearl at this point (yeah; I’m a year behind everyone on that title; so shoot me.)

Once again they release a game on VC that I loved as a kid, and once again it’s a NES port, which I assume makes it as clunky and substandard as Pac-Man and Galaga.
But like everyone else, I have so many options for playing the arcade version of Dig Dug that there’s no temptation anyway.
Fun little bit of trivia: The first time I got to one of the forced-scroll levels in Mario Galaxy, I thought they were starting to play the Dig-Dug music; the intros to the two tunes are really similar.

@Gregory Weagle:
The Pokemon are rendered in Mii style, hence their simplicity.
June 9th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
Where. The Fuck. IS CHO ANIKI?!?!?!?
June 9th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
@Josh S.: Okay; that at least makes sense. It still doesn’t explain the other console games though.

5 seconds of research says that Dig Dug was released in North America in the Arcade, on ColecoVision, Commodore 64, Xbox Live Arcade, Atari 2600, Atari 7800, Atari 8-bit home computer, and the Blackberry not to mention a ton of free sites, and i am sure any number of hundreds of clones for every operating system ever made.

I like Dig Dug,but I’d rather watch barney than waste points on My Pokemon Ranch!
