Wii Shop Channel Monday - Magnetica Twist and Fatal Fury 2
Monday, June 30th, 2008 at 8:20am by David
Only two new games released on the Wii Shop Channel this week, along with some new add-on content for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King. Hop on in for the full update after the break.
Magnetica Twist - WiiWare - 1,000 Wii Points
The classic puzzle game Magnetica is now available on WiiWare , putting its own unique “twist” on the puzzle-game experience. You’re surrounded by marbles, marching slowly but surely down a track. Use a launcher (piloted by a Mii of your choice) to shoot marbles with matching colors and wipe them out before they reach the end of the track. Control couldn’t be simpler, as all you need to do is twist the Wii Remote controller to aim and press the A button to shoot. And the game play remains as addictive and deep as you’ve come to expect in Nintendo’s puzzle games, with five varied play modes, advanced mechanics such as the ability to lob marbles, and a never-ending supply of combos. This definitely isn’t your typical game of marbles. [Published by Nintendo]
Fatal Fury 2 - NEOGEO - 1992 - 900 Wii Points
Fatal Fury 2 is the second installment in the renowned fighting-game series. In addition to Terry, Andy and Joe, who appeared in the original game, another five distinctive fighters gather from around the world to compete for the championship title. Also newly added are stage-specific hazards and the ability to perform desperation attacks when a character’s strength is low. These particularly deadly techniques create the chance for a come-from-behind victory achieved with a single strike. Moreover, the innovative two-line battle, which proved popular in the previous version, also has been radically enhanced. Pressing the weak-attack and strong-attack buttons simultaneously enables players to move their fighters to another line themselves, or to launch an attack that pushes opponents back to another line. This game mechanic, unique to this title in the series, allows the player to take advantage of the depth of the screen and create even more exciting bouts. Can you prove yourself the king of fighters again? [Originally published by SNK]

I know that Magnetica Twist looks a little bit lame to many people, but it’s the perfect casual game for my wife and parents - they all love these twist and shoot titles on PC. Even though it could have been a bit cheaper, I’ll still be grabbing this game for the casual crew around my home. Anyone else?

That type of game, Magnetica Twist, are fun, but I have Zuma on my iPod anyway.

Well, it’s pretty much gotten to the point where I no longer look forward to Mondays anymore.

Mario RPG and Earthbound. The internet got me all hyped up and until I see them, I will be forever disappointed with VC releases. (Until Megaman 9 at least.)

I don’t think the wiimote twisting 360 degrees is a fun way to play any game, especially Magnetica or Zuma. Once again, without a demo to try, no buy from me.
I did, however, dig Magnetica on the DS - if anyone sees it in a bargain bin I recommend grabbing it. Flicking marbles makes it a blend of meteos meets zuma.

I’d like to be able to demo the game…else it’s Zuma for me.

Purchase confirmed - despite nearly everyone else who commented on how weak this week’s release list is, my wife was very pleased to see Magnetica on the Wii. We watched the Wii Channel preview, and she declared that it must be our next Wii game.
No, it’s not Zuma. Popcap games is passing up a lot of money by not putting their branded software on the 360/PS3/Wii… but until they figure out what to do regarding home consoles, Magnetica looks about as close as we’ll get.

Magnetica Twist looks just like Zuma which I’ve played on Xbox. It’s actually pretty good. Nice colours and a simple easy to grasp concept. Not earth shattering but not bad

Magnetica was slick on the DS. I’m interested in this Wii version.

Meh. Nothing really interests me here.

magnetica looks like a rip off of zuma and fatal fury 2 was a fun fighter back in the day, but not one to stand out. nothing this week.
