Wii predictions for 2007

Sunday, January 28th, 2007 at 4:28am by Staff

First there were the infamous IGN DS predictions, and now we have some Wii ones as well. Matt C, you crazy kid, take ‘em away:

  • New Wii System Colors Launch
  • Metroid Prime 3’s Late Arrival (Fall)
  • Wireless Attachments (1rst Party, no more nunchuck cord)
  • Lots of Exercising (First Brain Age, now the Wii)
  • Back From the Dead Franchises (???)
  • The Return of Pikmin (GC revival?)
  • Massive Developer Outreach; Launch of Original VC Games (probably my personal favorite. This is where Nintendo hopefully says see ya to publishers and invites the developers directly into the VC fold. It’s the Long Tail baby!)
  • Third Parties Reinvent Mii Faces (Resident Miivil?)
  • Wii Takes Japan (No PS3 titles + 360 slump continues = Wii wins Japan in ‘07)
  • Nintendo Holds Strong at Number Two Globally (a safe bet to make)

Who else wants to make one?

    Hopefully Kid Icarus!htt

  2. jorohaco says...

    - DVD-enabled Wii with the new colors. (Has anyone noticed that LG/Verizon’s new Chocolate phone colors match those of the Wii’s shown at E3 last year?)

    - Nintendo releases a firmware update to enable an Always-on Blue Light option.

    - Nintendo quietly releases 4th and 5th Generation Wii Straps. (And also begins rolling out 2nd and 3rd Gen DS Straps).

    - (Maybe in ‘08?) Nintendo and friends start releasing remakes of GC titles with Wii control scheme support at $19.99-29.99 range (eg. Metroid Prime 1 & 2, Resident Evil 4, Wind Waker–a la re-release of Ocarina on the GC)

Big name titles such as Guitar Hero and Grand Theft auto will get Nintendo iterations.

(I have a feeling Rockstar won’t be too happy if Scarface gets a lot of sales on the Wii and they hadn’t even thought about a GTA for it)

I think the “built in Wii with TV” is an awesome idea..

Think about it… Just one wire to play Wii on a TV… The plug.

The Wii sensor is put in going around the TV for better accurcy (or just one on top or bottom and the user can choose which one they want to use).

A Wii game slot, and it’d look much like the iMac concept (which is very nice *thumbs up*).

And I like the firmware update of the always blue light on..

    That thing is awesome.

No one mentioned online, that scares me.

-Beta of Online Play, only first party titles use it
    -The blue light firmware
    -DS and VC demos
-World gets another VC console (whatever they’re missing)
-Better Mii channel (clothes and stuff)
-Wii takes a back seat in sales, way ahead of PS3 but behind 360
    -New colors
    -New straps
    -New Wiimote

  6. James Kochalka says...

Metroid Prime better have online multiplayer like the DS version does. I think that it will, but I’m not completely sure…

  7. Rollin says...

    That scares me, too, Rauru.

    Wishlist:
-360-esque demos with online multi if they have it.
-Purchasable Mii clothing packs. Go for 100-200 (leftover, useless) points.
-A decent attempt at an MMO or AC-like wifi game that becomes an online hub for Wii people. 1st party.
-Upgrade to the Mii channel. More extensive facial features, hair options, accessories, colors, height and weight, others.
-World of MiiCraft. A Mii-based WoW clone that’s not too taxing on the hardware. Free online.

    Predictions:
    -None of that will happen.
-Tons of differently colored remotes and no price drops.

A big name developer or publisher like Activision, Vivendi, Ubisoft or EA will drop or massively scale back support for the PS3, due to slow sales.

What that has to do with Wii, i don’t know. But i’ma counteract that and say PS3 will gain good ground on 360 this year.
