Wii Internet + Bluetooth keyboard = GOLD (if it existed)

Friday, April 13th, 2007 at 1:59pm by Staff

My lovefest with Aeropause continues: If I had a wireless (or even USB) keyboard with my Wii, I’d never surf the Internet with a browser on a PC ever again.

Now that I’m back on said crappy Windows machine, I find that there’s just no replacement for a keyboard. And there you have it: the single feature that sets using the Wii Internet Channel apart from using a web browser on a computer. I wish I could surf with the Wii Remote all the time, and type with a keyboard as needed. If I could do that, I’d probably do most everything on the Wii browser and let Windows rot.

A quick aside unrelated to this post: I, for one, don’t understand people who criticize free things. Like anyone who criticizes the final build of the Wii Browser. Or the Everybody Votes Channel. Both are optional downloads and both are completely free. And both perform exactly as advertised. No one said browsing on the Wii was going to be revolutionary. With a keyboard, however, they might start.

so you never want to surf the web in higher rez’s than 720×480? thats masochistic to surf the web in for a longer while… Wiimote hacked to work as a mouse on a media center PC would be great tho!

As I’ve said for a while now, a Bluetooth keyboard would be a welcome addition to Wii. It would be super-bad if they incorporate it in trash talking before online matches. Make it so!

“so you never want to surf the web in higher rez’s than 720×480?”

Anon, to about 90% of the people “out there” beyond the wide, wide world of the Internet, that made absolutely no sense and is largely irrelevant. My point being, no malice intended to you, for a majority of Wii owning individuals screen resolution is a non-issue.

it’s much funner to show Planet Unicorn (check youtube) on your bigscreen w/home theater sound and with couches then on my macbook’s tiny little screen.

for games the screen resolution is an non-issue yes, but for web surfing extra resolution is always better since you get more stuff on the screen… I’m just saying it’s more comfortable to surf in higher resolutions, but thats just me… but i agree free is good so nevermind… I’m just a bit sceptical that anyone would ditch their PC/Mac for a wii.. But there is a market for this thing, old people should find this wii-surfing an easy and enhoyable way to browse the intertubes..

I would argue that these things are not free. New channels and the ability to surf the internet were among the more dominant selling points of the Wii since its announcement. This is particularly why I am disappointed with Nintendo. They sold many of us on the Wii with selling points such as dvd playback, free internet browsing, no lull in grade A games, robust online. However, these are the exact things that they have yet to deliver.
So these things are not free…they are exactly what we paid…however, they have been under delivered.

oh and the wii browser is free only until june, then it’s 500 points so grab it while you can!

if they ever get the rumored voice to text tech to work, we may not ever need a keyboard for the wii.

And now that the wii is compatible with the latest version of flash, everything as good. even if the official twilight princess site won’t load due to inadaquet memory on the wiis behalf…

Am I the only one with a crappy browser? I wanted to watch some youtubes and play some flash games, but most of it all does not work, or very slow. What would be the benefit of this browser? Anyone?

    Holy hyperbole Batman!

Jack, the Wii browser is fun but claiming you’d rather surf on your Wii than a proper PC web browser is ridiculous. The resolution is terrible, and though they may not know the term EVERYONE who has ever used the Internet will immediately notice how none of their favorite sites fit anymore. Are you claiming 90% of Wii owners have never used the Internet?

And as Michael said, the Wii browser and Everybody Votes aren’t free. I paid $250 for them.

Well as someone esle said the browser is only free for now. I really like it, but a keyboard would be very welcome. ex. my mom uses it to check her email, but it’s not even worth the time to try and actaully reply to something because it takes so damn long. Being able to enter text at a decent speed would make it much more usefull. And you wouldn’t have to memorize the word verification on infendo in order to post.
