Wii - four months later

Monday, March 19th, 2007 at 5:37pm by Staff

Wii has been out for .. no, wait, let’s try this again .. Nintendo has been selling Wii consoles off and on for four months now. Back when I was standing in a line on a brisk November evening, our group had a conversation about when you’d be able to just walk in and buy one. “Spring” was the consensus. Tomorrow is the first day of Spring and yet traditional retailers can only keep them in stock for as long as it takes to ring them all up at the checkout line.

So I pose two questions to you, Infendo Nation:

a) When will we be able to “just walk in and buy one”?
b) At what point will lack of having units in stock begin to hurt Nintendo (if it hasn’t already)?

    When is SSBB coming out?

I predict it’ll be around that time when anyone can just walk in and get one….fall 07?

Never in history have I had to club a Grandmother with a borrowed 9-iron from Sporting Goods just to get a video game console. I think this is the unpredictable variable regulating how long it will take to walk in and get one.

Right when the first “online gameplay” enabled game comes out, thus confirming the need for individual friend codes on every game. That will effectively kill the furor over owning a Wii!

What is that, end of April?

When 50% of the homes in the United States already have one. Until then, keep that 9-iron handy.

    a) I said March, so my guess is already wrong. Now it’s September.

    b) As long as they continue to get stocked on Sundays and sell out in an hour, no one’s getting hurt and people are definitely coming back week after week to wait all over again.

I’d wager late may early june, when everyone starts going outside and enjoying the fine weather and playing real-life sports.

This shortage has to be favoring Xbox 360, slightly more expensive but readily available.

I don’t understand why everybody is sold out, i can walk into any gamestop, toys r us, or walmart and find about 6 wiis each. I just saw about 9 in gamestop, 3 in toys r us, and 4 in walmart just this past week.. But for fun, i’d say June..

And also, lack of Wiis won’t hurt Nintendo’s stock.. If anything, it’ll increase demand and allow Nintendo’s stock to rise, rise, rise!

I’d say a few months after the new Wii colors come out. Who knows when that will be.

Did Blake say in Infendo Radio number 50 that both he and Scott were mormons?

I think that you will be able to walk in and buy one in July or August. However, if Nintendo can’t increase volume by October, I predict that they won’t ever get their act together before Christmas.

You’ll be able to walk into places and score one at around whenever-the-hell-you-want, if you live in New York City.

    @Freddo, a little OT, no?

I missed the comment if it was in the show. However, I do know that Scott is a Mormon. I don’t know about Blake. He does live in Utah, though, so the odds are pretty high…

Is this an issue? You know, one of my favorite SciFi/Fantasy writers is a very enlightened individual, and he also happens to be a Mormon. His name is Orson Scott Card (you may have heard of him). I may be reading too much into your post, but please don’t judge someone on their religion.

No judging here. I’m Scott and Blake’s biggest Australian fan (perhaps the only one). You wouldn’t believe how I found this site - funny story. But I’ve stuck with it ever since. I’ve listened to every Infendo Radio since the 22nd or 23rd edition. It’s a weekly ritual of mine.

I also happen to be a Christian, and I believe the bible to be God’s Word. I believe that Mormons are not Christians because I think the bible teaches in order to be a Christian you must have some core beliefs like: there is one God, that forgiveness of sins is by grace alone, that there is a trinity, that Jesus is God.

So finding out that Scott is a mormon does change some things. It won’t change the fact that he does a great job with Blake in the podcasts, but I definitely will be praying for him tonight.
