Wii for Dummies hopes to make you smarter
Thursday, September 4th, 2008 at 11:30am by BlakeKyle Orland, a generous colleague and former blogmate of mine at Joystiq, has released his first book, Wii For Dummies. It’s probably more intended for your mom and grandpa who still don’t know what a Wii Channel is, but informed Wii owners like yourself might still be interested in:
* Ways to prevent damage to — and from — Wii remotes
* How to use the Wii’s full-featured Web browser
* Tips on choosing games
* How to enjoy photos, videos, and slideshows on your Wii
* All about the Wii Message Board
* Five hot Wii-specific Web sites
* How to customize the Channels menu
* Cool Wii games you can download
Jack will have a review posted later this month. You can snag the book from Amazon for $15.

I’m a dummy I want one.

The problem I have is that people who are casual enough to not know how the Wii works probably aren’t going to sit down and actually read something to figure it out - especially if most of the suggestions end up being common sense anyway.
That said, sounds like a good resource for all the gaming newbies out there who didn’t realize the Wii can be used to go online or to play more games than Wii Sports. (That isn’t sarcasm.)

* Tips on choosing games
1) Don’t buy Wii games “developed” by UbiSoft.

@Bii:
The Raving Rabbids franchise is an exception to that rule.

I thought the Wii was designed so that books like this wouldn’t have to be made…
Now if they made a PS3 XMB for dummies I think I could use that. I Can’t get that thing to do what I want it to! Yeesh!

Why does nobody like Ubisoft… Am I the only one that enjoyed Red Steel?
As for the book, cool, I… Don’t really need it though lol

Wow, does the Wii really require that much genius? I think this proves that gamers are smarter than the rest of society.

This looks like a fun novelty buy for me.

So this is the Wii User’s Manual 1.5, then. Looks like Kyle Orland is getting a shit-ton of FREE MONEY!

It is easier to set up the Wii correctly by accident than learning how to read…

This is a horrible cash-in.
Certainly the author realizes that one of the core reasons for the Wii’s success is that it is so simple that pretty much anyone can use it without any tutorials whatsoever.
I wonder if this is one of those “joke” books, like the one entitled, “Everything Men Understand About Women” and the entire book is just a bunch of blank pages.

@used cisco: I totally need that book for my shelf.

@neko,
Go get it, it’s only $4.99 on amazon.

Also, I find the “Wii for Dummies” book quite ironic since the only people who would buy it really do fit the demographic of being dummies.
