Wii DLC finally coming to discs, WiiWare titles

A quick snippet from a snippet at Game|Life today:
his address at GDC this morning, Nintendo project leader Takashi Aoyama said that Nintendo will, in the near future, allow Wii owners to use Wii Points (purchased with a credit card transaction online or on cards in stores) to buy add-on content for games. He said that add-on contents would also be available for disc-based games as well as WiiWare downloadable titles.
The add-on contents for disc games would be purchased within the game, Aoyama said.
’bout bloody frickin’ time, no? Also, conveniently this news could put the Wii DLC timeline around the launch of WiiWare and Mario Kart Wii, the latter of which better have downloadable tracks, upgrades and new racer/kart downloads as a result of this. Seriously, what a fitting way for a company like Nintendo to introduce such a thing — on their own system with their own game on their own terms. Nada’s changed, folks!

Except Brawl is not getting this (in a way), so I could careless about this.

Hey, it’s finally been announced. Now if they’d just get to how the storage system is going to work. I’m not excited about an SD card solution, but I’ll take it over “to d/l more stuff, delete other stuff first.”

Storage is still a nagging issue.

Does this mean it’s going to finally allow for GH3 to get downloads or does it mean it’s never gonna happen as downloads are purchased in game and i assume this feature isn’t present in the Wii version.

Another option would be to have an online “account” on Nintendo servers to store content. But then the Wi-Fi service would probably not be free anymore!
Well, that would not be a bad thing: MicroSoft charges for their online service, and that’s why they are at the top on that…

@InvisibleMan,
Did you miss the announcemet of Pay and Play service, where you can pay for certain online features?

Seriously nintendo, usb drive support, please.

So this basically means they can now nickel and dime us to death by withholding content.
Woohoo!

It also comes at a good time for us to finally get some Guitar Hero songs (now that the replacement discs are heading out) and sets up for Rock Band (which we know is coming).

STORAGE!?!?!?!

Clarifying: I have nothing against SD cards but Ninty has to have some sort of plan regarding storage…right?

I think some one has mentioned this before, but will this encourage developers to make games which are 90% complete.

Jeez, some of you guys will never be happy with anything… Months ago we were all crying about the absence of DLC on the Wii and now you’re upset that games will be shipped 90% complete? Last I checked Gamecubes still work, sell your Wii and plug in one of those.

I’d like downloadable content, but I don’t want to have to worry if it’s going to fit in the tiny allotted storage space.

This is terrible. >:[

This doesn’t mean all DLC will cost money does it? I surely hope not.

What’s DLC? downloadable content? GDC?
