Wave Race 64 contains Wii and DS ads

The recently released Wave Race 64 for the Virtual Console has been updated to include Wii and DS ads. I’m not pointing fingers or naming names, but didn’t they tell us that the classic games would go unaltered? I’m assuming they removed the old Kawasaki ads. What’s next, the Burger King mascot in the 64 version of Smash Bros?

I heard that they didn’t have the rights to the Kawasaki ads anymore so they had to replace it with something. Why not their own products?

They already proved that the games aren’t unaltered, because Kid Icarus’ old codes don’t work anymore. I don’t really mind this one though, I think it’s a good way to advertise.

Hah! That N64 logo looks so out of place, yet so…not out of place..

Yeah, simply put…the legally could not place the Kawasaki logo in the game. Same reason player names couldn’t be included in the VC release of Tecmo Bowl.

While I like the idea of ads being updated, it begs the question: why can’t they do the same with other aspects of the games? Like upgrade the resolution, or make them widescreen, or include online multiplayer.
Granted, those features would be far more difficult to implement than updating a sprite, but I would pay $10 more in a heartbeat if I could play WaveRace 64 or Mario Kart 64 online!

If not having the rights to have the Kawasaki ads is the problem, then does that mean they stripped the actual Jet-skis of the Kawasaki brand name?

Ahh I remember back in 97, anticipating the release of the wii while pulling off some sick jet ski tricks…….it’s been a long wait for everyone but its finally here……..

Invisibleman, they need to keep online in old games back, so they can make money off of them again in 2010.

I REALLY wish they’d add online to old games, though… my friends and I got pretty psyched with the concept of playing Uniracers against eachother when it makes it to the VC.

Perfect, so they dont bother to make the european games 480p compatible but they waste time modifing actual code of the game to do that.

So, I ask , Why Advertise the Wii on the VC ?
Lets see, you MUST OWN a Wii in order to play VC games, so why waste time advertising it, obviously you own one and are enjoying it. I see a point to advertise the DS, but not the Wii.
I am in total agreement with those who are looking for the additional gameplay option to go online with some of the classic N64 titles ,if they so choose. I own Rave Race , but I would buy Wave Race on the VC for ten bucks, IF it had an additional online mode. Same with Mario Kart and Star Fox.
Back on topic, I wonder if more advertisements will end up in VC games? I hope not.

I’m really surprised that they don’t add online multiplayer to VC games. You wouldn’t even have to change any of the game code. All you’d have to do in the emulator is accept the 2nd controller input over the network.
Of course, both players would end up looking at a split screen, even though the players are in different locations … which is a bit silly, but honestly, this is the only realistic way to do it. Otherwise you have to change the very core of the game. Devs and publishers would rather concentrate on new games than massively overhauling old ones, and i’d prefer it that way, too.

Have you played any Nintendo games at all? Need I remind you of paper Mario, Mario & Luigi, etc.?
By now it’s no surprise Nintendo uses its games to sell you their other systems so why should this be any different?
Besides, those old Kawasaki ads needed to be changed for SOMETHING.
