Three new releases on the Wii Shop Channel today:
Mach Rider - NES
It’s the year 2112. Earth has been invaded by the forces of evil. Battle the invaders as you race from sector to sector on your motorcycle, searching for survivors. For a different challenge, create your own course in Design Mode.
Yoshi - NES
Yoshi is an action/puzzle game starring Mario’s dinosaur buddy, Yoshi, who has been imprisoned in an egg. Now it’s raining Goombas, Bloopers and Boo Buddies, and you have to help Mario stop the airborne invasion.
Air Zonk - TG16
Air Zonk is a spin-off of the popular Bonk’s Adventure series. This side-scrolling shooter retains the same cartoonish style of Bonk but is set in a cyberpunk future.
From what I’ve heard, Air Zonk is supposed to be an awesome platformer. Mach Rider got me pretty excited until I realized it isn’t STUN Runner and that Yoshi game threw me for a loop until I saw the box art. Downloading anything this week?

Darn. I thought by Yoshi you meant Yoshi’s Island… seriously, wtf is this? YI is great, though.

I never learn.
Every week, I get excited about what might be coming to the VC…and almost every week, I end up saying, “That’s it???”
This is another of those weeks.

Yoshi is actually a pretty fun puzzler. I’ll be getting it, I’m sure.

Darn. I thought by Yoshi you meant Yoshi’s Story, for the N64!

I had Yoshi for GB. It was pretty fun, I’ve never played the NES version though… a disappointing week again, however.

As one of the 15 people that actually owned a TG-16 when I was a kid, I used to own Air Zonk and I’m downloading it tonight. The TG-16 always had great side scrolling shooters (anyone ever play Lords of Thunder) and Hudson put a lot of effort behind their Bonk (Zonk) titles.

I’m gonna download all the Bonk games when I finally have some time to get into the Virtual Console.
And I actually confused Mach Rider with Williams’ Star Rider, which in turn I confused with Stun Runner (the difference being that Star Rider was actually a laserdisc racing game with prerendered graphics while Stun Runner was actual 3D polygons. Ahh, 1989, probably the last year that arcade games had way more horsepower than home systems.)
