Top Ten - What’s left for Wii?
Sunday, October 7th, 2007 at 12:00pm by David
With Mario, Pokémon, Zelda, Metroid, DK, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Fire Emblem, Pikmin, Animal Crossing, and Battalion Wars either out or coming down the pipeline for Wii, what Nintendo owned franchises are left? Here’s the top ten list of what’s left for Wii:
10 - Star Tropics
Mike Jones could use a trip on Wii. Adventure gaming can only benefit from point-clicking with the Wii Remote
9 - Golden Sun
The cult hit RPG deserves some respect from Nintendo. Maybe Wii would be a good place for it, if DS wasn’t the place for RPGs.
8 - Earthbound/Mother
Nintendo, just do this one for the fans.
7 - F-Zero
There isn’t a really good racer out there for Wii yet, besides ExciteTruck. Could be the next big Wi-Fi game after Mario Kart mania subsides later next year.
6 - Chibi-Robo
Keep this franchise alive, Nintendo. It’s fun for little kids, but doesn’t dumb itself down for adults. Wii controls can only serve to assist Chibi is his quest to help people.
5 - Star Fox
Tilting the Nunchuk like you did in SSX Blur could be a fun way to steer the ship while aiming and shooting can be done with the Wii Remote.
4 - Pilotwings
A variety of aircraft, jetpacks, maybe parachuting and more, all motion controlled. I miss the days when Mode 7 was around. Maybe Nintendo could tie this one up in a modernized retro style.
3 - Kid Icarus
People want it and Nintendo is teasing us with Pit’s appearance in Smash Bros Brawl. The only question here is how the game will be played.
2 - Kirby
Point at an enemy with the Wii Remote, press A to suck him up, and repeat. Kirby had a racer on Wii, but otherwise got the shaft. His popularity on Virtual Console should prove his worth to Nintendo.
1 - Punch-Out!!
Refine the controls of Wii Boxing and bring back that puzzle-brawler concept of the original. Admit it, you played the original NES version standing up anyway! Online fights with your friends could also be fun.
These are just ten of the multitude of Nintendo franchises that could be tapped into for Wii. What are your favorites?

kirby just rules…and what about another Yoshi title…and they never really go back in time with any character…sure they have the “babies” but thats nothing exciting its just playing the same idea but as a baby, and most of the time it is still mario vs. bowser for princess peach

A new Mother game is definitely not coming out, and I doubt Golden Sun will be (for Wii, anyway). I can easily see Star Fox, F-Zero, Pilotwings, and Kirby. Chibi-Robo and Kid Icarus seem kind of likely. Then I’d say dragging behind’d be a new Punch Out and/or Star Tropics.

Yes. Mother. Now. Man that is my favorite series of all time. A lot of the others would be cool too. I’m pretty sure there is a kirby game coming to the wii. Crystal Shards style 3d sidescroller. Check wikipedia…but then again we all know how reliable wiki can be sometimes….

Kid Icarus would be great. I really want a new installment of excite truck though. I LOVED that game. With online it would have been the best racer so far this gen IMHO. I think I’ll go play it right now.

Pikmin. I’ll bet my copy of Earthbound that Miyamoto’s next project will be Pikmin 3, if he hasn’t started it already. Another great idea would be a Pokemon MMO, but I seriously doubt that would ever happen.

I wish we had some actual confirmation that Pikmin’s being worked on, since I still consider it #1 on my “please do a Wii (or even DS) version of this game” list even if rumor has it that it’s “in the pipeline”.

Can any one tell me what the september surprise was please?

Pikmin 3?
I just wrote a post about that.
I would love a new Punch-Out! on Wii as long as they stuck to the formula. I would hate for it to turn into Fight Night or something.

Pikmin gets my vote.

Balloon Fight, Kuru Kuru Kururin or perhaps a Mario Tennis title.

Frisby, stick to the formula???? Then just download the original punchout on VC!
A new punch out iterating on the Wii boxing control scheme would be the shit.

Kid Icarus and Star Fox FTW.

Well don’t make it the same. I guess it would be similar to Wii Sports boxing, but the same kind of “formula”
Each character has their “tell” yah know. Make it feel like a new punch out. Super Punch out rocked, so move up from there.

There NEEDS to be a new Mario Tennis, and Kirby would be great.

I rather see what new stuff like Wii Sports and Wii Fit they can come up with rather than see rehashes fixed for another generation. That’s why they dropped Project hammer, it was the same old hardcore formula no one buys, like it happened with Geist. Nintendo should make new stuff and mix it with some of the old, but not focus on just old characters games. That’s why they created pikmin and look how good that game is.

Star Fox is pretty much a given, but I think tilting the nunchuck would suck. I’d much rather just use the analog stick and maybe use the nunchuk when you need to DO A BARREL ROLL!

My top three most desired games to come back to the Wii have always been StarTropics, Kid Icarus, and Faxanadu.
I doubt StarTropics would pop-up out of nowhere; we haven’t heard anything about it from Nintendo in years. And I don’t see any chance of Falcom bringing Faxanadu back. Which leaves Kid Icarus.. it almost seems as though Nintendo is taunting us by putting him in Brawl.

Pikmin a thousand times over, I want that game. Maybe a new Ice Climbers game.

What? No one thought of this one? Do I have to say it? Ok fine I will. Here goes:
Rhythm Tengoku
Imagine swinging a baseball bat hitting baseballs to the beat of music . . . with the motion sensor magic of the Wii mote. Or better yet, motion-punching things thrown at you, while literally hitting to the beat (perhaps w/ a two-fisted nunchuk as well). Or motion-slash a samurai sword to strike your enemies while they go after you. . . while keeping beat.
My point is this Japan-only Gameboy Advance hit can be another of Nintendo’s hidden trump cards in waiting, especially if it comes out in a big way on the Wii.
