The best-reviewed Wii games of 2007

According to Metacritic:
- Super Mario Galaxy
- Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition
- Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
- Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure
- Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
My take: Super Mario Galaxy the best game of the year (across all platforms), RE4 overrated, MP3 slightly overrated, Zack and Wiki underrated, GH3 about right.

No way is Metroid Prime over-rated! It’s better then Galaxy imo.

I was about to say a very similar thing! MP3 is vastly under-rated in my opinion. Publications practically refer to it now like it was an also-ran. It’s probably my favorite game on Wii so far.

Metroid Prime 3 was great. But Mario was the best game on ALL platforms I own this year.
RE4 Wii edition is absolutely amazing IF and ONLY if you never played the Cube one.

The problem with the Wii is that there are so many reviewers that just don’t give a shit. SSX Blur is the finest snow boarding game I have ever touched but it got some horrid reviews from a couple of people unwilling to spend the time to learn the new control scheme. Same happened with Godzilla: Unleashed. The finest Wii fighting game so far but people are unwilling to get accustomed to the controls and therefore it also got vastly mixed reviews…

I’m only 5 stages in, but Zack and Wiki is my holiday surprise hit. LEGO Star Wars Complete Saga is good for a button mashing round or two as well!

It seems odd to call these games over or under rated on a site that chooses to disregard numerical ratings. Keep in mind, the ratings of these games on metacritic equate to about a 4 star rating on this site.
So, by saying MP3 is over rated, are you saying its only a 3 star game?
Or, how can a 4 star game like Zak and Wiki be under rated? Whats higher than 4 stars? I think all these games are 4 star games?

As a previous poster said, RE4 is in the right place if you’ve never played it before. Given that the Wii has exposure to a much larger audience than the Cube had, I’d say ranking it at #2 is a good spot. Not every Wii owner had a Cube (or the PS2 version) ..

I think that Galaxy and Prime are the two games I enjoyed the most this year. Super Paper Mario was so-so for me, and I’ve only played the first 45 minutes or so of Z&W. Hoping to get more into that soon.

I disagree about MP3 being overrated, I think it’s better than Galaxy. While Galaxy is an outstanding game, IMHO it’s the one that’s a bit overrated. RE4 is definitely overrated. While I agree it’s the version to own out of the numerous versions, it’s still at it’s heart a GC port and even though the price was lower, I felt a little too much of a big deal was made out of it. I would have put Super Paper Mario on my list. It’s not great but it was one of the better Wii titles. I would have put Umbrella Chronicles in over RE4. Other than that, I dont’ really have a #5. I haven’t played Z&W so I can’t comment, and nothing else I played on the Wii this year, that was released this year would I consider good enough to brag about.
And if Godzilla:Unleashed is the finest fighting game on the Wii, then that’s saying quite a bit about the state of fighting games on the Wii. That game is horrible.

I’m surprised GH3 wasn’t a bit higher, even being mono and whatnot. And along those lines, I wonder why Rock Band didn’t hit the Wii yet. That seems like a big miss- since it’s right up the wii demographic alley. Wonder what they’re waiting on….??

RE4 is one of my favorite games of all time. I did own it on the GameCube, but only got about halfway through before giving up. Shooter games with a joystick just don’t work for me - the lack of precision became too frustrating.
The Wii version, however, was a revelation. The controls fixed what was for me the only flaw of the previous version. This game definitely belongs in the top tier of the list. Too bad they couldn’t have given the visuals a bit of a bump up for Wii though.

I don’t think Metroid Prime 3 is overrated. If anything, it was more underrated by gamers and was ignored by a lot of people. It’s a shame though.

I’ve been saying for a while that EA are out of their minds, because Rock band actually HAS made it to PS2. No one else seemed to notice, but to me this was EA’s biggest ‘FUCK YOU’ to Nintendo and profits in general.
As for GHIII, as far as the scores go, it seemed to do less well than previous Guitar Heroes across all platforms (perhaps as a result of the change of hands). More importantly, the clear mistakes of the Wii version (charging practically the same for a version without HD, limited online, a cheaper guitar, and apparently breaking surround, or even stereo sound, and in doing so the law as well) indicate they didn’t care about the Wii version at all. This is good news, as the high sales of the game have clearly beaten their expectations (which were low), meaning GH IV and consequently Rock Band 2 will both have a better chance of Wii versions which aren’t second thoughts. And illegal.

MP3 was overrated to me cause it was kind of boring on many parts of the game. I even beat it and found no significance and fun from it. Maybe it’s cause I’m not a hardcore Metroid fan, but all I know is that Super Mario Galaxy is the best game ever and beats MP3 mainly cause it’s brand new, I keep playing it, has the best graphics on Wii, and is all around fun!!!
