Mine made a sound like that once with a gamecube disc that was pretty beat up, but only once, I took it out and put it back in and never happened again.
haha yeah actually thats my friend’s Wii. There was no small objects put into the fan nor did anyone tamper with it. He’s currently getting a refurbished Wii which kinda sucks because theres no way to retrieve his data.
Yup. That’s my Wii. I called them up and actually put the phone near the console so they can hear it. They gave me the Advanced replacement option and I gladly took it. I can barely play Super Paper Mario without it getting annoying. I hope it comes soon! Haha
One thing I notice , I hear a slight noise when a disc is inserted while browsing the Wii menu,, i dunno why? because the Wii menu doesn’t have to with anything disc related..
So what I do now after playing a game, is, I eject the disc when going to the Wii menu ..
I describe the noise as if the Wii is reading the disc while I’m in the Wii menu..
One question , is the dvd drive active while a disc is inserted while you are in the Wii menu? have anybody noticed this besides me ?
My Wii was well on it’s way to sounding like that. I called up support and told them it was making a noise. The lady on the other end asked a couple of questions and got me setup for a repair. A couple of weeks later I had it back and it’s good as new, with a one year warranty extension to boot.
I dont hear anything while playing a game its when I go to the Wii menu and the disc is still inserted ……the sound is not loud, is like its reading the disc …..
its odd to me because why is it reading the disc when coming in and out of the channels…….
example : I’m in the Wii menu at this moment I can hear the reading disc sound , when I click on any channel , lets say the news channel the reading disc sound goes away , I exit from the channel to the Wii menu I hear the dvd drive go on to read the disc that is inserted again..
It is probably related to the content displayed on the “play” channel. Since that is customized by game, it makes sense that the Wii reads the disk while on the wii menu.
“I can barely play Super Paper Mario without it getting annoying.”
I had the same problem with that game Samir. I made an agreement with the game. I would stop playing it and it would cease to annoy me. I think this arrangement will work out well until I can trade it in.

Oh… so thats the noise the Wii makes when you stick small objects into the fan chamber…

I’m telling ya… placing the sensor bar on top of a DVD player is a REALLY bad idea!!
August 7th, 2007 at 12:38 pm
Hm… I kind of feel like that noise may have been something completely unrelated to the actual Wii.
*shrugs*

Does it do that when it’s vertical?
August 7th, 2007 at 1:45 pm
There are only 2 moving parts in the Wii:
The fan and the DVD drive.
In either case it’s time for making use the warrant.
August 7th, 2007 at 2:11 pm
Mine did that too, vertical or horizontal- they replaced it under warranty.

It’s just a bad ball bearing in the fan. Big whoop.

We have helm, captian.

This is the first time I’ve seen anyone with major malfunction with the Wii.
Oh well, that’s why there’s warranty.

Thanks for posting this Blake! Anyone who has this problem should definitely call Nintendo. They were very nice about replacing it

By the way it makes this noise only when a disc is inserted. Both horizontally and vertically.

unbalanced disc will do this.. and once its done it can unbalance the spinner.. … send it back,, if a disc shatters (and it will) it will be bricked.
