Sign up for a Cellphone Contract get a Wii

So apparently in Germany obtaining a Nintnendo Wii or a copy of Wii Fit is as easy as singing up for a 2 year cell phone contract. Now most of us would be very weary of deals like this, waiting for the catch as to why you would get a system for free. Well the deal here is that you would get a pre-owned refurbished old cellphone instead of getting brand new ones. So if you don’t mind getting a crummy old cell phone which is not technologically up to date with all those fancy bells and whistles, but want to enjoy some Wii gaming this might be the chance for you.

Special Thanks to my tipster in Germany, Frank.

Wow that is so witty and adds so much to the discussion of the article.

They’ve been doing this in the UK for the past several months at places like the carphone warehouse.

They also give PS3’s, DS’s and even TVs

It would probably work for me. I hardly ever use my cell phone, and when I do I only use it to make or receive a call. I think I’ve played a game or two on it a few times while stuck waiting some where, but for the most part I like my cell phone to be as simple as possible. So, as long as the phone worked, and the contract wasn’t too outrageous, I would probably go for it.

Same here, Joshdad; I don’t mind the extra bells and whistles like a camera or MP3 support, but I’m not going to pay an extra hundred bucks (or whatever amount) just for the extras when the point of buying a cell phone is so you can make and receive calls. Unless I could easily afford it, that is.
Anyway, I’d totally go for that deal, but alas, I live in Canada. Although the major phone company in Ontario (Bell) had a nice deal a few months ago: if you signed up for their ADSL and paid $54.99 per month (whereas the regular price is $44.95), you’d get a free Xbox 360 Premium and a copy of Forza 2 or PGR4.

Why post something like this? It’s pretty common in Europe.
I live in the Netherlands and you can both get a Wii by walking into an electronics store AS WELL AS by signing up for a 2 year contract - which includes a NEW cell phone, not a refurbished one. You can get all kinds of gadgets doing that - computers, iPods, PS3’s, Beer taps.. you are paying for it yourself, after all, by paying a contract for 2 years!
In short: big deal.
