“Sense of urgency” driving Nintendo to produce storage solution
Thursday, July 24th, 2008 at 10:53am by Jack
It seems like eons ago that Nintendo of Europe funnyman Laurent Fischer said “geeks and otaku” were the only people worried about a Wii storage solution. Today, we revisit the topic with Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime, who put a decidedly different kind of spin on the issue.
“As we continue to have things [...] like Mario Kart that has its own channel when you’re playing from an Internet perspective, we’re just making this challenge tougher and tougher. So in our view this is becoming much more of a mainstream problem, which is why we have a sense of urgency to solve it.”
Now, what, exactly, will this “storage solution” be? We’re still kind of where we were originally—in the dark. But hey, at least they’re dedicated to solving the issue as it starts to infringe on people who don’t necessarily consider themselves “geeks or otaku” of any kind.

And nobody saw this coming a year and a half ago? I feel like my fanhood is hanging in the balance here lately. And everything I find myself getting excited about for the next year in gaming is all on the PC (i.e. Diablo III, Starcraft II, Spore)…… It’s the end of the world or something. I think the bubble really is about to burst. When the best forthcoming console title I can think of is Mega Man IX, you know something is seriously wrong with the console industry.

Wow, a story about a possible solution in the works for the Wii memory problem. Never heard this before.
Maybe we should start a separate forum just for this one topic.

Well, working for a big, big, software company, I can tell you one thing:
You already know what the problem is BEFORE you address the public about it.
And not just a week before, or even a month. It’s several months, possibly even a year before you send someone out to give a press conference!
Reggie knows a lot more about it than he’s allowed to say, I’ll tell you that.

Just ran out of space this week when I tried to download Ocarina of Time.
How hard can it be to have something that intelligently shuffles channels back and forth between an SD card? That seems to be the easiest solution to me.

@Trip42
It can’t be that hard at all. That “something” you are refering to is called a Homo Sapien.
@Kale
You’re just realizing this now? The bubble burst a few months ago when oil tripled in price.

@Trip42, we can do that though… OH You mean one that doesn’t take for freaking EVER!
I’m starting to regret getting a Wii…

About bloody time, too.
I was getting a little tired at Nintendo adamantly denying this to be an issue.

@Pr3pster
Well start buying patience.
I still stand, SD CARDS ARE FINE!
