Rumor: Street Fighter IV coming to Wii?
Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008 at 3:27pm by Jake
According to an unnamed Japanese gaming mag the highly anticipated Street Fighter IV for the Arcade is in development for the Wii. Capcom’s fighter has been rumored to be capable of running fine on the Wii since December when the new simplistic (Okami-like) art style was revealed to the press. Street Fighter IV contains both 3D and 2D elements that don’t require a beefy platform.
Old comments from Producer, Yoshinori Ono suggest that it’s a possibility…
“We could go, potentially, to the Wii. We could make it on Game Boy, for all we know right now.”
Is this a juicy secret revealed or are Japanese gaming publications pulling our leg again? I smell a E3 keynote announcement…

It would be ” possible” to make it for the Wii, that is for sure. But it may not be 100% arcade perfect.
I would rather play it in HD and with a DECENT online service, to be honest, on the 360.
Still , more street fighter is always a good thing….unless you count the movie…yikes!

The only confirmed platform for Street Fighter IV is the Arcades.
Capcom hasn’t actually made an announcement on the platforms. Why?
Because it will be a shocker.

@DonWii
Nope its been announced for the 360. The first actual gameplay footage was from the 360 version. Think it was some joystiq guys who did a lil field trip to Japan that were allowed to try it and interview the lead designer guy.

Must have been post GDC, since the previews I read there talked about it “rumored for PS3/360″.

Edit: Not rumored, speculated to be.

It’s funny because all of the HD guys online hate having this game in 3d. Then most of them hate the art even though it is almost stop on for the characters in 3d. Just look back at the snes version and how much they where able to port. It was not suppose to be possible then. Then remember these guys do own the res evil engine. The HD will not make the cut but check out the textures do they even look like they have a set resolution? You could do it almost them all with GPU friendly base materials! There not that much of a need for many dynamic lights either. Physics.. well two characters? Then the added possibility that this will be the real 2d game makes this version come out of top if all I said above comes true. Either way I will find away to play once i test it out. Looks fast too!

@ Wii Wii
So far as I heard, all attempts at online Street Fighter on 360 have failed miserably. Why should this be any different?
@ Lifeisaglitch. It certainly hasn’t been announced for 360.
Either way, given Capcom’s recent MO, even if there is a Wii itteration (which is doubtful), they’ll either bork it, PS2port it or mis-market it. Despite being a vastly inferior version, the Wii version will still sell like hot cakes

elmer- i had street fighter anniversary edition that worked great on live. what’s this epic fail you’re talking about? plus, according to the most awesomest knowledge base on the planet, wikipedia, SFII was well received on live.
i’m not excited about a wii port. a hardcore fighter ported to the wii? meh. brawl was at least developed for the system.
either way, it’s a safe bet this will hit the 360. now if MS could only keep that live thing working correctly…

PS Bioware heads had a conversation on what gaming is and whether wii qualifies. oh, and 0 punctuation did brawl. i thought those topics might pop up on this site sometime. The first is especially interesting for conversation. esp since i idolize bioware.

“what’s this epic fail you’re talking about?”
What it ALWAYS is about around these parts, deepthought.
Absolute. Blind. FanBOYISM.
If this game DOES come out on the PS3, Wii and 360 and a lucky gamer had more than one system, how many would actually pick the watered down, non HD, pissy poor online serviced Wii version that will come along?

I was thinking of Hyper Fighting on 360.

Plenty of sites complained about horrible lag (I remember the blog articles) which particularly affects a game known for it’s demands for precision timing, and a cursory google search will show that plenty of articles pointed out how the lag situation didn’t improve after the initial patch. I don’t know what the situation is now, but it certainly was broke. I simply assumed that if it was broken on 360, then an Xbox1 game would only be worse (I actually forgot there was an SF game on that platform). Shows what I know about the state of Xbox Live decay.

@Wii Wii Really i’ll be getting the PC version since DMC is looking PS4 good and you can speed it up and add more enemies in what looks like devil may cry running on the crysis engine at 120 FPS! I think the new SF4 is actually running on a type-2 arcade kit. This is actualy a PC with a core duo in it and nvidia card with loads of ram just like my PC! Really if capcom keeps putting out PC games like this I won’t need an HD system at all. So then if the Wii version tries some thing new then that would be cool.
I remember the whole lag thing too elmer but I did not witness it because the neighboring xbox 360 was sent away for acting badly. Some say it was drugs but I think it was RROD! What is truly funny is this might not make it to a console at all!

Possible is ceratinly a nice word but I doubt they’ll do a port any time soon (if at all). I just don’t see them reworking everything to work on an older system.
…unless they do the obvious PS2 port and then make a trash port for Wii.

@Elmer
It has been confirmed google 1up street fighter 4 gameplay video.

@ elmer
hahaha- regarding ‘the state of Xbox Live decay’…
no kidding. i was on live last night and it was crap. connection problems. voice chat crappy. laggy. it’s just a networking service- not exactly nuclear physics. i’ll tell you what’s wrong with it though: MS tries to put as little money into it as possible and get away with it. they drive ALL their decisions that way, the ones that benefit consumers and especially those that don’t (half baked 360 hardware on release b/c they wanted to get it out a holiday early).
and yet, it’s nintendo making the green. the irony gods must be rolling on the floor.

“because the neighboring xbox 360 was sent away for acting badly. Some say it was drugs but I think it was RROD! ”
Ha! Mine RROD on me about 6 months ago.
Sucked !

I kind of got over the whole Street Fighter thing back around 1995, after the 2,000 version of Street Fighter II was released. Not to say I wouldn’t give SF IV a shot but I’m really not that excited about it. However I would have to say if I got a version, I’d get the 360/PS3 version over the Wii version unless there was a really good reason not to.

@ deepthought
Well the penny pinching on live is somewhat understandable - they lost a billion dollars on live on xbox1 alone.
