Rumor: Famitsu confirms RE2 “Wii-make”
Thursday, August 28th, 2008 at 9:56pm by Derek
According to an information leak on Japanese forum 2ch, the latest issue of Famitsu has confirmed an exclusive “Wii-make” of Resident Evil 2 is in development from Capcom.
A term often confused with “port,” the important word here is “remake.” The rumor maintains Capcom is fully rebuilding the decade-old game on Wii, implementing additional story elements, an evil new “swordsman” creature and an occasional over-the-shoulder camera view ala Resident Evil 4.
Kombo has the full story and poses an important thought:
Particularly if it is rebuilt in the same vein as Capcom’s masterful 2002 Resident Evil remake for GameCube, Resident Evil 2 will likely be a solid remake. But while their next-generation brethren enjoy a tasty serving of Resident Evil 5, Wii owners may only begrudgingly swallow Resident Evil 2, no matter how well Capcom reheats it.
Call me crazy, but I’d wager there are some like-minded and justifiable sentiments brewing among Infendoites.

Capcom’s remake of Resident Evil on the cube was awesome. Although I would love to have RE5 on Wii, I would be first to buy a quality remake of RE2. Hell you can never have too much Resident Evil.

Resident Evil 2 being re-done on Wii sounds pretty good to me. I mean, Wii isn’t getting Resident Evil 5, but Resident Evil 2 as a remake has me excited to see as what Capcom plans for this game. Even if it is a substitute for RE 5. All I’m saying is, they better not screw this game up, cause RE 2 happens to be one of my ALL TIME favorite Resident Evil games in history next to Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

Don’t worry, guys. Resident Evil 5 will come to Nintendo. It will just be on Nintendo’s NEXT home console.

Not surprising, considering Capcoms track record of Waggle ports of last gen games to the Wii.
Thankfully , I will be playing RE5 and not give a crap about this continuation of Disappointment from Capcom on the Wii concerning the RE series

yup. sounds like consolation prize. i’d choose re5 of the two. already played re2 on the n64. (fun game though)

For better or worse, this is false. So much so that Christian Svensson on the Capcom forums said this rumor wasn’t even worth issuing a comment over on the Capcom forums and locked the thread about it.

This is just 2chan fucking with the English-speaking press and forum goers, like they usually do.

Ummmm…you guys DO know that the Wii is getting RE5, right? We’ll be getting it later than everyone else, but it IS coming for us.

I’m sure this will be great, but Holy Christ I can’t wait for RE5, It looks absolutely bananas! I’ll get this to though (if it’s real…buzzkills)

Not only is RE5 NOT coming out for the Wii, but neither is. This was already debunked on GoNintendo guys.

As an RE fanatic, I would probably buy an RE 2 remake, but I seriously don’t want one. The original RE needed a remake because the jump in quality from RE to RE2 was huge. RE2 is still a great game. It doesn’t need a remake. I’m getting really tired of game companies doing “remakes”. There is PLENTY of room in the RE timeline to make a new RE game that fills in more of the gaps of the storyline. Umbrella Chronicles was ok but didn’t nearly fill in as much as it was touted to. How about a game set in the timeline letting us know what happened to Rebecca? Or how about some more games set between the events of RE3/RE:CV and RE4? Again….there should be plenty to work with.
Besides, if they really wanted to remake some games, remake Survivor, which IS a canonical game. Or even remake Gaiden for the DS.
As far as RE5 on the Wii…ummm considering what we’ve seen in trying to downgrade Dead Rising to the Wii, I don’t want to see a downgrade of RE5 to the Wii.

So Sven typing one sentence on the Capcom forums qualifies as a corporate-wide “debunk”?

*barf*
At least the RE4 port made SOME sense because the controls improved and the extras from the PS2 version were added in. I’m not so sure I want to play RE2.5
I agree that it’d be nice if instead they tried something original instead of a nasty downgraded port.

I have no comment other than the image on this post is of the same copier we use, with the exact same options no less.

Our RE5 isn’t going to be some nasty downgraded port. Sure, it won’t LOOK as good as the other versions, but it’ll probably play better than they will. The announcement of RE5 Wii was accidentally leaked by the vice president of Sega….for some reason. I have no clue why Sega would be involved but ther’s probably a valid reason for it.
Let’s also not forget that Capcom gave us Umbrella Chronicles, RE4 Wii Edition (and RE:0 Wii Edition in Japan only) to test Resident Evil’s popularity and playability on the Wii. And I believe we all know exactly how well things have gone so far. From a business standpoint, Capcom stands to lose much if this game ISN’T put on the Wii as well. Logically, one can safely assume Wii owners will not be left out. They’ll just have to wait longer than the rest.

Man, I was so excited back when they released the cube remake of RE and then they started doing subsequent releases of RE 2, 3, and CV:X.
When I bought those games I thought they were completely remastered much like they did with RE 1 on the gamecube, but I was sadly disappointed.
But now that they’re remaking the best Resident Evil game pre RE4, I will be buying that, but I wonder if it would make use of the systems motion controls.
