Review: Summer Athletics: The Ultimate Challenge

Based on some preview videos, I was really excited for this game. It seemed like a great Olympic game just in time for August without the cartoony qualities of Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games. Unfortunately, the controls for the jumping events (poll vault, long jump, etc) are extremely kludgey. Events like javelin and archery were fun, but they barely make up for the clunky controls in other categories.
The character creation system is rather daunting with a ridiculous amount of controls to create your avatar. If I’m going to just end up staring at the back of his head, who cares what his eyebrows and chin look like? I’ll gladly go back to racing my Mii against Mario and Sonic, thank you.
One out of four stars.

Personally, I love extensive character avatar creation (Mass Effect, anyone?), but since I’m not interested in this game in the first place, I don’t suppose it makes a difference.
“Kludgey.” I like that.

When the publisher is “Conspiracy”, stay far far away.
