Quick question: Nintendo’s spot at GameStop?
Friday, August 10th, 2007 at 2:39pm by Jack
I bought a used copy of Phoenix Wright for my flight out to San Francisco earlier this week, but before I bought it I noticed something: Wii and DS were at the front of the store.
Both of the front columns were filled with Wii peripherals, games, empty console boxes (still sold out), DS stuff and games, and used games for both systems.
Question is, when did this happen? I know it happened over in Japan rather recently, but what about the States?

Strangely enough, Wii and DS are at the front of both local Gamestops in my area. Last generation, you were lucky if you could even find their GameCube sections, hidden in the back of the store and given far less shelf space. The Wii and DS demo units are also at the very front of the stores.
Strange how much can change in the span of a year or two.

I used to work in a Game store and it’s really not even funny how much of the placement in a store is bought. I bet you though the chart was based on sales……

My gamestop as soon as you walk in on the left is Wii, DS, and used GC games. Sony owns the whole right side. And XBox is in the back corner

At my GameStop, Wii/DS/GameCube stuff has the right wall, PlayStation has the whole left wall and Xbox/360 has the back wall. Wii/DS are prominently displayed in the front though.

Yup, this happened in November when the Wii kiosks came out.

Over at my GameStop in Phoenix, AZ Wii has the front and left wall, amazing what a large budget and brand can do for you.

Wii always had the front right wall since its pre-launch at the GameStops I’ve seen. DS got moved to that wall at about the same time the Wii launched in November…

Nintendo has been in the front of my local GameStop ever since it opened months ago, to my enjoyment, although the GameCube stuff obviously still in the back.

Wii was always in front at my gamestop. Even when it just showed off the games and stuff before it’s release, maybe they’re like Ubisoft, they know a winner.

For my local stores the switch happened when DS started its never ending climb to ten trillion units sold…at that point DS was in front, and as soon as a Wii kiosk was available it took front right.

My one local Gamestop that opened as a Gamestop has had the Wii and DS (and some used Gamecube stuff) right up front since around xmastime.
On the other hand, at the 3 or 4 Gamestops that used to be EB’s, the Wii and DS stuff are still back where the GBA and Gamecube stuff used to be, and at all but one of them, the DS demo unit is broken. No Wiiosks at all.

Don’t know when it happened exactly but it’s the same at my local EB.
