Poll - Are you still unable to buy a Wii?

Monday, April 30th, 2007 at 1:12pm by Staff

They talked about whether or not Nintendo was intentionally withholding Wii systems on Infendo Radio #56, so this week we ask:

Are you still unable to buy a Wii?
Yes
No
Waiting
Don’t want one

Since there’s an answer for “Don’t want one” please assume that “No” means you already have one.

If you have one or can’t find one, tell us your story. If you’re waiting or don’t want one, tell us why.

Ended up getting ours online, through Circuit City. It was a bundle, but it turned out that we were able to edit the bundle, deleting some games we didn’t want. That was back in…February. We used a few tracking sites to follow the online stock.

Do I answer No if I have one? It wasn’t easy to get…

If I walk into a store right now, I probably couldn’t find one, is that what you mean by “unable to buy a Wii”?

An option for already having one is missing from the pole.

I voted no because I know a place where I could just go and pick one up today, but that is a toy shop that doesnt get frequented much by video gamers.

I got mine at launch, but I know about 3 peopel who desperatly want one, and they are totally unavailable in Calgary. I have seen plenty on Craigslist for $400.00, but I don’t think that counts as being “available.”

I have one thanks to a friend but they’re still somewhat scarce here in Guadalajara (Mexico). They tell me it’s not a problem in Mexico city but I assume they send more shipments there just cuz it’s a much larger city.

Got mine off E-bay and I didn’t pay anymore than in the store either (don’t know how that happened). I’ve looked in stores around here in MA and no one has any.

I got mine on launch day by doing the “clueless clerk” trick:

Headed to a specific Toys R’ Us that I knew had plenty of cashiers that didn’t know what a Wii was, got in the “only for pre-reserves” line fifteen minutes before opening time (that line had people going in a whole two hours before the store opened), so when the store actually opened, and they were not checking in the line if you had your Wii reserved or not, went right into the electronics section and got one of the only two units not reserved!

I definitely would recommend you to do that on the next big system launch, but I’m afraid all retail chains finally plugged that loop hole!

    Oh, and Kevin and chaosof99:

I assume David meant for this poll to be for Wii-less readers only!

    Right?

Assume that “No” means you have one.

I think that “no” is going to be a bit higher here since we are all Nintendo nerds and have been trying really hard to get a Wii. I’ve heard lots of stories about more casual gamers who don’t stake out Best Buy who just haven’t been able to find one on the shelf. It’s kind of a bad thing that right now when Nintendo has this buzz that the Wii can’t be the impulse buy for non-gamers that it needs/wants to be.

I was in at futureshop and ebgames on friday, and they had recived a shipment earlier that day. That i know of futureshop only had one or two left, and i think it was the same story at eb. Hard to say if still available doubtful.

I voted still unable to get one because we only got ours last week. We’d been looking since December & the only reason we have one is because we harassed our local GameStop every single day about shipments. So the systems are still very unavailable here…here is Fort Polk, Louisiana, btw.

We were able to get one at Gamestop last week, pretty funny really. I bought a GameCube to replace my dead one and decided to stop by Gamestop to grab a game or two, when I did I got talking to one of the employees who stated their truck came in a day late so they still had 2. I purchased one and some other guy grabbed the second one after me. They were out of extra wiimotes and nunchucks but I was able to buy those at another Gamestop. I ended up giving my daughter my Gamecube for her games and hook the Wii up to the big screen.
