Nintendo readying new Wii bundle?

Nintendo may be preparing the release of a new Wii bundle and/or color if an anonymous Codename Revolution contact is to be believed. According to the report, the new bundle has a UPC code of 045496880088, and it’s owned by Nintendo of America.
Without citing details, this “new pack” is believed to be either a new game bundle, Wii Zapper bundle, or possibly a new color. This is, of course, all speculative — but what better time to release a Wii remix than on the console’s one-year birthday? A black Wii would be nice…

I wouldn’t like the look of a black Wii! I’d prefer either fiuchia or ice blue!

A Wii Sports/Wii Play bundle with 2 remotes would be ideal.

A Black Wii would go very nice along side my x-box 360 elite.
Maybe a bundle with Super mario?
Or a RE bundle with the Wii Zapper?
It is time for the new colours .

Hey, the NES “deluxe set” worked out pretty well for them and the stuff it was bundled with wasn’t even that good, so why not a repeat with the Wii and the zapper and that Zelda thing….

I’m was personally hoping for a Chartreuse colored Wii….

No no no. They’re expanding the market, remember? It will be pink.

….with hearts.

I am fine with my white Wii so these new bundles don’t really interest me.

Red!

If its black, I’ll want it, but I won’t buy it.
At this point, all I want is for them to update the firmware to allow the SD card to act as internal memory, including for Gamecube saves, or at least game cube save backups.
This would solve so many problems. It would enable more larger VC titles to be released, as well as downloadable content. Do it Nintendo!

I agree with Kotaku in thinking that this new SKU probably only reflects the new Wiimote jackets now being bundled in with the Wii.

@Anne Packrat: I don’t think it has to do with the jackets, because the price on the bundle is 40 bucks more than the core system. This would also rule out the idea of it being a Zapper bundle because the Zapper is only $20. My vote is for a Mario Galaxy pack-in. “Buy the bundle, save ten bucks” seems like a Nintendo strategy. It could also be a Wii Fit bundle, but that seems less likely to me because that’s not coming out until after X-mas.

Oh, man. Scratch what I said about the price, that was 289.99 Canadian dollars! Which is the exact same price as the “current” Wii… Which means you’re probably right about the jackets or someone’s right about the colors. Maybe even the Zapper theory could be right. But no Mario, definitely no Wii Fit. I’m sorry I doubted you, Anne Packrat!

new colors would boost sales up

Nintendo is pushing casual gaming. Mario Galaxy is NOT a casual game. Nintendo would not pack in a core game when they are expanding the market.
Colors sound like a trump card for when the sales drop. I expect to see the same colors as the DS Lite.

If they’re alrady having trouble supplying the current demand, what gives credence to the idea that they’ll be creating a new SKU?

@frisby
mario galaxy actually IS a casual game. the difficulty curve is very gentle. this is intentional on nintendo’s part.

What about a scratch-n’-sniff Wii?
…why do I feel so uncomfortable after writing that sentence…

Never doubt a woman with a Virtual Boy’s Nintendo knowledge.
