Mario Kart Wii commercial makes me hate Nintendo just a little bit
Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008 at 8:26pm by DavidHave you seen this thing? It’s constantly on TV for me lately. So long, “Wii would like to play” guys. You had a long run. Hopefully Cowboy Jed doesn’t stick around for 18 months.

This is what happens when people complain about the “Wii would like to play” commercials.

I saw this on TBS the other day. I about gagged.
At first I thought it was some cheesy 3rd party Wii ad, but to my horror it was for a 1st party Nintendo title.
sad isn’t it.

I don’t get you guys. This thing is just so dumb it’s awesome.
“Look at that boy!”

It’s amazing how this generation has killed off everybody’s sense of humor

It’s a good saturday morning cartoon commercial and for kids channels. but I’d hate to see it on primetime.

NO Way!! This commercial is actually very good in a weird way. It odly brings me back to the old commercial for the genesis and stuff. I dunno. I guess its so bad, its good.
April 22nd, 2008 at 9:50 pm
haha it seems people either love it or hate it.
meh. It’s kinda annoying. but yet funny… i dunno what to think of it.

Its like watching the the Micro Machines commercial on a really bad trip.
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Wow… Nintendo’s losing it.
April 22nd, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Hm… it’s… definitely different, I’ll give it that…
April 22nd, 2008 at 11:00 pm
So bad it’s good can’t stop thinking about it! Why did you post this! The rural areas will love this!
April 22nd, 2008 at 11:07 pm

This commercial is actually very smart advertising. It’s obviously a tongue-and-cheek satire of local used car lot commercials that any normal person will recognize. And it’s an effective way of showing the consumer the ease and appeal of the wii wheel. For most consumers it will be the first exposure of the device and I’m positive it will garner even higher awareness and sales.

Oh come on! That commercial was good. In a weird king of way. Maybe it’s not really good for this day and age but this would have killed 10 years ago. I’d place it next to the SSB commercial in terms of awesomeness.

It’s a good a commercial, I like it.
To each his own.

It’s fine, but I really liked the “Wii Would Like To Play” campaign, so that’s where my loyalty lies. They were/are truly the inheritors to the mantle of Segata Sanshiro.

i also liked this commercial, its amusing and odd, which isnt so bad.

Reminds me of the Seattle area’s Vern Fonk commercials.

This commercial is so relentlessly old-school, I cannot help but love it. I mean, come on…every NES and SNES commercial I can think of was just as, if not more, cheesy and stupid. This is classic video game advertising.

@sportracer-5:
Good call! I completely forgot about those ads - I hadn’t seen them on TV for a long time now.
April 23rd, 2008 at 7:49 am
WTF?
April 23rd, 2008 at 8:13 am
For me this just like a flash back to some of those goofy old NES commercials that came around back in the day. Good times.
April 23rd, 2008 at 1:14 pm
Does Arnold impression !GET BEHIND THE WHEEL!!
April 23rd, 2008 at 3:32 pm
Yeah, it is kind of… stupid.
April 24th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
Brandon has it exactly right!
April 25th, 2008 at 9:58 am
How’d they manage to get a marketing firm from the late 80’s and bring them to our time? Wow…
April 27th, 2008 at 6:07 pm
Okay, what’s with the complaining? This is fantastic.
Of course, no one is going to take this commercial “seriously” and get annoyed by the fact that it isn’t all OMG HARDSXCORE.
It’s a parody.
And it has a hillbilly car salesman in it.
And MarioKart.
And purposefully annoying catch-phrases.
And a guy pretending to be a little kid for no reason.
And a giant inflatable DK.
It’s delicious, gentlemen.
What’s not to like?
