Cambridge, UK. 20th February 2008. David Braben’s Frontier Developments (”FrontierTM”), one of the games industry’s leading independent developers, today announced its first title for WiiWareTM - LostWindsTM; a high quality, enchanting adventure bursting with new gameplay ideas that embrace the innovative controller of the Wii™ .
Built with Frontier’s in-house 3D game-engine technology LostWinds puts “the power of the wind in the palm of your hand” as you wield the awesome powers of Enril the wind spirit - from raging tornados to the gentlest breeze – to guide and protect Toku, a young boy who is the only one who can help you release the curse placed upon the world of Mistralis by evil Balasar. Mistralis is a stunningly presented, magical land full of wonder and intrigue that bursts to life with your every action and exploration. The game’s novel, playful control mechanism lets you use Enril’s elemental powers to help Toku in your quest to overcome Balasar – powering his jumps and glides through Mistralis’ different regions, buffeting and smashing enemies, and solving puzzles.
“LostWinds is an innovative game, and an exciting project for many reasons,” commented David Braben. “Not least the fact that it’s one of the large number of excellent concepts that have arisen through our long running internal forum discussions on game ideas. Frontier is packed full of talented game enthusiasts, and contributing creative ideas and feedback is actively encouraged. WiiWare offers a perfect extra outlet for that creativity, and I hope that LostWinds is the first of many games that will follow this process.”
More details on LostWinds can be found at www.frontier.co.uk/games/lostwinds.
LostWinds will be available exclusively via WiiWare.
Frontier is expanding and actively recruiting now for game designers, programmers, artists, animators and production staff with all levels of experience. Please apply via www.frontier.co.uk/jobs.

Geez, WiiWare is starting to sound even more exciting than just plain regular Wii. I do sure hope they make some way to play stuff off an SD card, because I’ll probably end up buying more than I can fit on the Wii’s built in storage.

Copy, Delete, done. Not that hard, James, not that hard.
As for the game, looking nice along with World of Goo and Bomberman WiiWare.

Sorry, Atlantis, but I agree with James. It is really annoying to swap games to a SD to download a game. It bothers me as much as long loading times. Nintendo must really work out the wii storage problem.
Best!

It’s sad that WiiWare games look like they are going to have better graphics than most disc-based games.

It’s nice to see developers taking WiiWare titles seriously. I’m really looking forward to this one!

This looks interesting.
Nice.

-.- Well I can’t stand filling up every menu space with VC games; cause it really looks disorganized and well plain out messy. I guess I really don’t mind swapping games out.
Honestly, why would anyone want 36+ VC games in the menu which your probably only have time for at least three at most.

Looks pretty good so far. Like a cross between Yoshi Touch and Go and Kirby Canvas Curse.

Wow, this game looks great! I’m really excited for this.

I’d say you’re in the vast minority here pal. I personally would want all my VC and WiiWare games on my Wii. Time has nothing to do with it.

Any mention anywhere about how much WiiWare games are going to cost?
February 20th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
this sounds like Okami-wind-Waker

@Joshdad: FFCC from Square is going to cost around $15, but I do not remember the link. There was that bubble game that would cost $5 (too expensive for what it is). So, it has a wide price range. They will define it according to the game.
Best!

Thanks Fabio, it helps knowing what we’re talking about when considering what’s going to be available. If it is as good as it looks, then 15 bucks is a good price.

Whilst I certainly wish there was a better storage solution for the Wii, I can actually see the point Atlantis1982 is making. Putting VC and WiiWare games on SD card and coping them back to the Wii when you want to play them is no more cumbersome than inserting a game disc.
If you think of that game loaded SD card as a cartridge, rather than a set of downloads, it all suddenly seems less annoying.

Thats the thing though Doc_R, I wouldn’t mind copying and deleting so much but it just takes ages for a game to copy over, espicially the bigger ones such as N64 games. I have about six on my SD that I haven’t touched for months. I really don’t see why they just can’t release an external HDD.
