Limited components to prolong Wii shortages

Friday, August 17th, 2007 at 12:22pm by Blake

Wii at AngleBad news for those hoping to score a Wii before next year. Take it away, DigiTimes.

Due to the tight supply of components such as IC chips and PCBs, Nintendo’s plans to expand production of its Wii games console, originally set for June, have been delayed, according to Taiwan-based component makers. With the delay of its plans, any easing of the Wii shortages in the worldwide market is unlikely to be seen in the second half of 2007, said the component makers.

And the beat goes on…

    I don’t trust DigiWhatever.

People over at Joystiq are all speculating that Nintendo is holding back shipments on purpose; supposedly their plan is to then release HUGE shipments for the holiday season, when shoppers spend the most money (and, of course, when MP3, SMG and SSBB will all be out!)

Bottom line: I think Nintendo really is facing challenges in producing enough hardware to meet demand; the demand right now is HUGE. Nintendo is already producing 2x the hardware that Microsoft and Sony are producing, and Wii is STILL outselling competition 2-to-1 (and in many cases, even higher than that!)

I just don’t think this DigiWhatever source has the exact facts down. Since when are they reliable?

Yeah, I call BS on this as well. No PCBs? Is the world suddenly out of sand or something?

You can still find them though, for example I saw them for sale at http://atek.stores.yahoo.net/nintendowii.html

Less consoles = less sales for Nintendo’s BIG 3.

This , if true, could bite them in the ass in a few months
